  • Painting Impact Screen?

My Carl’s premium impact screen has some distracting stains stemming from use, my two daughters, and failed attempts at cleaning (dawn soap / water). Has anyone tried painting their impact screen with something like this?

    Projector Screen Paint - High Definition | 4K - Ultra White - Quart https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DR7E7Z2...DW06GAFTJDH7SS

Alternatively, any idea how to get rid of the stains?

Other than the stains, the screen is still in great shape.

Did you try one of those magic erasers?

Sounds like you tried spot cleaning, maybe you take it down and soak it in a cleaning solution? I’m sure there’s some voodoo mixture someone can help with that will take it out. If my mom were still here I’m sure she’d know, there wasn’t a stain she didn’t have an answer for

Can you see the marks when the projector is on? Only marks on mine are burn marks which you can tell if you can feel the mark. I have not had a reason to clean mine yet but I do know they say to use a hair dryer and do small sections so you avoid water marks. What I do when I have to spot clean something is I clean the trouble spot and then fan out the area with a damp cloth like you would do when you spot paint a wall. You leave a hard edge you will see a hard edge

          Here’s a picture of it - it’s a water stain.

Vinegar and distilled/reverse osmosis water should take that out. Water marks are from dissolved minerals in tap water.

If you have a wet vacuum or hair dryer, use that to try to remove as much of the moisture as possible after cleaning. Might take a few tries but it should eventually disappear.

I think Lefty71 had the right idea. Use a quality steam cleaner and distilled water. I cannot see how "painting over" stains would ever work on an impact screen.

                Just my two cents.

i figured that, i might do a steam cleaner with a bit of white vinegar and distilled water. i think thats how i ran into the problem using my well water the first time.
i made a horrible mess of it.

I wouldn't paint it. I would imagine that the paint would flake off over time. Now what would be interesting is if you dyed a screen with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Rit-Dye-Liqui.../dp/B001QX2G9S

Most of the higher end projector screens are gray/black. Helps with the overall contrast and get's deeper blacks. I actually have some screen material from One Stop Sim Shop that they wont take back (long story). I may die it and see how it comes out. Why someone hasn't created a dark impact screen is beyond me. That would really help to hide dirt and burn marks, not to mention give you a better picture.

Just as an example, the picture attached is with my projector (BQ LK936ST) against a plain wall in what's called "Cyberspace". It's a dark color and the same as my sim space will be here in a couple weeks. The picture is phenomenal. Note... glare from my office window will not be applied to the sim build

If I experiment with the dye, I'll post some pics! Could be a disaster, lol.

whats funny is I joined this forum for the same reason.

Its weird that a lower gain isn't offered on the impact screens but on the non impact screens. I just assume impacts show worse on darker colors. I emailed to ask why.

Have you tried the dye? I was considering dying the screen too, but the Rit Dye i was looking at required boiling water.

I think ive given up on that idea and Im going to do a rear projection with a net in front at this point.
