16:10 Projector Help

Hello,

I am having trouble finding a good native 16:10 projector. I am purchasing a large screen from Carl's Place. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a projector and I can't mount the projector farther than 15 feet from the screen. I can mount the projector from 15 feet or anywhere in between. I have found that a short throw projector might be my best options but with a 16:10 aspect ratio my options are very limited. I have reach that I can buy a native 16:9 projector and just set my computer to 16:10 and the projector should display 16:10. However, I have also read that this can cause the image clarity issues. I want to be able to fill up the entire screen. I have been playing around on Projector Central's throw calculator. Has anyone ran into this issue? Please see me screen dimensions listed below.

I think you have your height and width backwards. Once this is done, have you tried to do a search using projector central? I would recommend the Eiki 308u, but think you might need about two more feet to make it work.

Yes you are correct. I had the width and height flipped. I corrected it on the post. I looked at that projector and it would require 20 feet from the screen and that is not an option unfortunately. When I run the calculator on Projector Central for a 16:10 projector the best projector that comes up is the Optoma W319ST Projector. It's not an expensive projector @ $800 so I am not sure how good the picture quality would be. The next project that comes up that isn't discontinued is like $4k and I am not spending that much.

Did you play with the zoom slider to see if you could get the projector lower than 20 feet?

If I put the zoom slider all the way to 1.64x it gets me to 15 feet 11 inches. So pretty close. If its zoom slider is all the way to 1.64x does that effect the picture quality or clarity?

I don’t think you will notice the degradation in picture quality, but I think it could affect light output a little bit. however, this is a very bright projector and this should not be an issue. Think the bigger issue will be that you will lose wiggle room. The nice thing about the zoom is that you don’t need to get your measurements spot on perfect as you can adjust using the zoom.

I have the ZU606TST-W and we really love it. I discuss it a bit here: BenQ LK953ST Vs. Optoma ZU606TST-W questions - Golf Simulator Forum. Let me know if you have any specific questions. The one thing I would point out though is that while it accepts 4K HDR signals, it projects at 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) so not 4K but still pretty amazing PQ. For me the 6K lumens, the 16x10 native projection and the throw ratio were the driving factors - fantastic projector.

I looked at the ZU606TST-W and that projector would actually work. I am struggling with the price. Like I mentioned in my original post that I really don't want to spend $4K on a projector. $2k is that max that I want to spend if I'm being honest. Do you have any other suggestions by chance?
