  • Garage Simulator Basic Quick Advice

    Hi,

Looking to build a quick, somewhat easy, garage simulator. Have 10.6 ceilings.

What is the minimum I would need? I admit I need to research more, but to keep it short I am thinking:

    1. GC2
    2. HMC (Not needed at all correct? Just good for range practice club data)
    3. Projector
    4. Hitting Screen
    5. Mat to hit ball off of.
    6. Some sort of side netting to protect bad hits (Does this come in a combo with hitting screen perhaps?)
    7. PC/TGC software

Anything else I NEED NEED? Not looking to do anything fancy for now. I'm sure I am missing things, but looking for basic, necessary components to play 45 minutes few times a week in garage and maybe with friends here or there. Someday I may consider decking it out, but the time is not now.

    TIA!!!!

    Also to note:

I want to purchase decent components. I would say equivalent to GC2 in LMs. Can anyone give recommendations? Projector? Screen? Mat?

I am willing to pay more. Maybe not top top of the line, but close.

Thanks again! I admit I am overwhelmed in life and looking for the responses for the base to me doing more research, but saving me days of research. Really want to get the ball rolling and purchase most of everything I need within a couple days without wishing I got better products.

    Any help/suggestions are appreciated!!

I just did a garage sim build. Really enjoyed it. I got a Mevo +. Framed the top and bottom of the screen with 1" Metal Conduit ($50), got ball bungees from Amazon ($20)(Kotap), screen from Carls 8 X 8. Got the clearance screen for $300 bucks - it was almost perfect when it got here. I needed 2 18" brackets from Home Depot with conduit clips hooked into them to hang the screen from the wall (total of $30). You can use conduit all the way around to make sure you have tension everywhere. I didnt - Just top and bottom for me - it worked fine. Got the 5X4 hitting mat from Carls ($500) -TrueStrike is a better mat, but too heavy and I need to move it out of the way when a car comes in the garage. This has been a really good mat though, no doubt Epson short throw projector (Lite 530), from ebay for $250. Got 7.5 X 6 turf from Home depot for $169 so the ball will land softly. Between some tools i had to buy and some ancillary stuff, all in I am at $3,500. The only real decision was the launch monitor. The rest of the setup would be exactly the same regardless of the LM I chose.

Can't go wrong with a gc2. A lot of good / different software options that connect easily to the unit. Good luck with the journey and enjoy.

Your Projector will dictate your screen size or vise versa based on your screen and room dimensions. Go big!
You can custom make your enclosure for 1/2 price of a pre made system. Peak Tarps was great for me.
Skytrack or Mevo+ unless you go fancier and down that rabbit hole. Some used gems if you are patient.
Get a GOOD mat. Fiberbuilt, GungHo, Divot Action seem to be good places to start. I have a rawhide mat that beat me up that sits next to a fiber built flight deck and I couldn’t be happier really. I’m still planning on upgrading that at some point but that’s the life.
Build yourself a homemade JoyToy box with a kit from Amazon and some ingenuity for TGC you will thank me later.
Welcome to the club been here about a year.

You will also probably want some sort of landing turf between the hitting mat and screen. Also some sort of ceiling protection would be good. I have not put ceiling protection in mine yet and have a few ball marks since wedges like to climb the screen. Planning to do some acoustical tiles soon.

I agree with the previous poster on a JoyToy box or if you don't want to build it yourself a Roxor Box. My wife just got me one for my birthday and its awesome.
