  • Protection for Par2Pro Retractable Motor (Top of Screen)

I have had my build good enough to start hitting since the start of the week. I didn't run into this problem with the hundreds of balls I hit over the last two days but invited a couple of buddies over to test out the build yesterday. One of the balls hit the very top of the Par2Pro screen (where the rotation motor is) and came flying back. I have netting to protect the ceiling but it is just above the screen so it is possible to strike the rotation motor. Of course, this was a unique shot but now that I've seen it I want to protect against it. There is a 2-inch strip of velcro across the top of the impact screen but I assume velcroing foam to this would negatively impact the way the screen rolls up. Has anyone else run into this issue and, if so, how are you protecting from striking this? Thanks so much!

Not familiar with that particular setup but it seems we all have issues with "spots" we thought would be safe. I'm waiting on bumpers to come in to protect my frame from a direct hit, guessing you could get something similar. Is there a smooth edge you could Velcro protection to? I want mine to have a finished look so I went the bumper route but they are expensive. If it was fine for you before I'd find my own foam and Velcro it if possible.

Yes, on the Par2Pro screen there is a 2-inch velcro strip across the top, which would protect the frame/motor. I'm just concerned that velcroing foam to that would impact the way the screen retracts and rolls up. I'm checking with Par2Pro on it. I am looking for a solution I don't need to remove each time I want to bring the screen back up.

I'm still in the design phase of a similar set up. I was thinking of stretching canvas cloth along the top for ceiling and roller protection. Having it hang over in front, an inch or two below the roller tube. How to hang it is the issue - maybe a support rod or wires from the ceiling.

Please report your findings on this as I'm thinking of getting this screen as well and would like to see what the solution is.

The canvas, or another heavy fabric, is an idea I'm considering. In my case, I need to attach to the netting that is protecting the ceiling. Thus, I think I'll first try something like a 10-foot x 2-inch piece of netting that attaches to the ceiling and side netting (I have about 10 inches of side netting that hangs over the curtain track) via zip ties. I think I could stretch this tight enough that it would form a protective barrier for the roller. I'll lose two inches of the screen at the top because I currently have my image going over that two velcro strip at the top of the impact screen but that's negligible in the scheme of things. I'll keep this post updated once I solve this one!

This is a good find...I was having trouble finding a product long enough. Why do you need double-sided velcro attached to it? Don't you just need whatever side of the velcro (hook or loop) that will attach to the top of the screen (maybe that is what you mean)? I'm also wondering...as long as you need to undo the velcro each time you roll it up why not just get a piece of foam that covers the length of the velcro at top and just velcro it right on as opposed to even zip tieing it to the top of the ceiling? Unless this setup also prevents a ball from slipping over the top of the screen? Thanks for the product link!

We do sell a baffle strip for roller tube protection, it can fasten to your net or to the ceiling.

I'm not sure if it's the same product, but I bought a 12" high strip with grommets from Par2Pro and hung it from my enclosure netting in front of the roller. It works great.

OK, that's a good option to be aware of. I am currently using two of these giant pool noodles that wrap perfectly around the roller. I just take them off when I need to roll things up. I wish they came in white but they fit absolutely perfectly around the roller.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Stealth screen. Do you guys think it makes sense to bite the bullet and purchase their ceiling protection, or is the pool noodle/other material sufficient? I've heard beyond hitting the motor higher lofted shots can send the ball ricocheting off the ceiling. Have you guys run into this issue?

Yes, regardless of your screen choice I recommend ceiling protection based on my first month hitting balls. I've hit the sand wedge into the netting I have to protect the ceiling and I've even had cases of an extremely poorly hit driver coming off the tee as a sky ball (I'm a high handicapper). That said, whether you buy their ceiling protection or do it on your own, it probably comes down to cost. We installed netting on our own that works well and then I used the noodles to cover the roller. It was inexpensive and works fine. I'll keep tweaking as need be! Have fun!
