  • Projector upgrade

I use the Ben Q TH671 ST. I recently upgraded my graphics card and it can go to 1440p rather than 1080p, so my existing projector is my limiting factor.
I project onto a 12ft wide HD screen. Would I see a noticeable visual benefit in upgrading my projector to a 4k projector, even though I use use at 1440p?

1080p vs 1440p vs 4k: Which looks better? – DIY HomeTronics

    A 1080p display (1920 by 1080) has 2,073,600 pixels, a 1440p display (2560 by 1440) has 3,686,400 pixels and a 4K display (3840 by 2160) has 8,294,400 pixels. This is a 44% pixel count difference between 1080p and 1440p, a 4x difference between 1080p and 4k, and a 2.25x difference between 1440p and 4K.

It will have more pixels so the picture will appear clearer. Whether it is worthwhile is really up to you. It could be a good staged upgrade - i.e. upgrade computer later to 4K but again a personal choice.

I think there is a misunderstanding on the capability of your graphics card. Pretty much all graphics cards will display whatever resolution you set them at whether it's 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. The question is can it produce enough FPS (Frames per Second) to make the resolution usable without stuttering or freezing.

Can you give us your PC specs including your graphics card or provide us a link to what you purchased?

You would see a very noticeable difference in picture quality at 4K even at a 4:3 aspect ratio (12ft).

        Thanks.

        Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor

Graphics: MSI GeForce RTX 2060 6GB Ventus GP OC
Y screen is sized for a 16:9 aspect ratio.

        thanks again.

Personally, I find the impact screen to also be a limiting factor on providing the real "pop" that you can get from projected 4k. I'd suggest that you wont get a hugely satisfying wow from on upgrade to 2K. If you are unsatisfied with the TH671ST, that would probably be a more compelling reason. My two cents...

Well, you have enough hardware to run 4K. Interesting that you are using a 16:9 aspect ratio with a 12" screen? That means you only have an image that 6"9' tall. How tall is your screen and do you have black bars or gaps on the top and bottom of the image?

Screen is actually a little wider (4mr), and I run my artificial grass up so bottom off image is 9” off the ground, so fits well
