  • Need advice - Simulator build at Office!

    Hello folks,

Even though I picked up golf about a decade back, I never played regularly. Now that I have some time, I would like to improve my game, so want to invest in an indoor sim to view, analyze my swings.

I'm planning to build a good looking golf simulator build at my office. Even though I prefer to have this in my basement, my basement ceiling height is about 8'9" and I worry this will impact my swing, especially with the driver. Hence my inclination to build this at my office.

My office is decent size (6K sq ft) is on the 3rd floor. I'm considering a space adjacent to the conference center and the dimensions are - 19'7" wide x 10'3" height x 36" deep

Since this will be in office, I want a professional good looking set up and budget isn't major concern. Having said that, I would like to use my funds effectively since I'm not sure how often I would use.

With my limited research & knowledge, I'm planning to go with the below options:

    i) Carl's Pro Golf enclosure 10 x 15'6".
Considering I have all glass conference room right next to it, should I go with 5' depth enclosure or 10'?
Does 5' or even 10' enclosure depth with extended net, give 100% assurance that there won't be any risk /shacks with the glass breaking?

    ii) Garmin R10
Been reading great things about it. If I like & continue to use the sim, I plan to upgrade to better LM down the lane.
Do you think R10 gives an option to record and analyze my swing and club data? I have a tendency to slice the shots, especially with my driver. Would like to correct.

iv) I'm planning to go with Fiberbuilt mat. What are the best options for artificial turf between the screen and the tee position?

Below is the picture of my office space.
I would really appreciate your advice!

I built a unit in my office out in the warehouse. I just used the cheap artificial grass between the screen and hitting mat. I also added some around the hitting mat to hopefully keep the hitting mat clean from people bringing dirt on their shoes and also to stop any stray balls from bouncing around . With most LM you are 12 feet give or take from the screen so you have to hit a very bad shot to fly totally out of the enclosure at 5' if its 10' I would say the chances are zero. What you will have to watch for is flop shots and things that can hit the top cross bar and come back at strange angles. Again the surrounding material will help with this to slow the balls down. I would up the launch monitor to either a skytrack or Mevo+. I think the garmin10 might be a little to low budget in your case.

Curious on what you did. I have a warehouse where I am building this. I bought a launch and have a fiber built 10X12 mat. It's in an open warehouse. My concerns are balls flying out of the enclosure on the sides from people hitting hosel rockets. A flop shot going out the top. Where in the world to mount the projector. And do I go 16:9/16:10 or 4:3... I've been debating this for months, creating "build you own" on carls. Curious what other warehousers did. Thanks!

Thank you for the response. Regarding LM, I heard that R10 is comparable with the best LM under $2K, even better in some aspects.
I agree that I can spend more on a LM, but my impression was R10's accuracy & features are short of only GC2/3/quad and Uneeqor EYE XO.

The Garmin is pretty good for most golfers, though "as good" is subjective because it depends on what your specific desires/needs are. There's going to be compromises at its price point over any of the more expensive units, such as putting and estimated spin indoors.

It's worth keeping in mind that your particular space may have plenty of opportunities for interference with a radar unit: structural steel, large 3-phase HVAC units, electronic office equipment, fluorescent lighting. Any of those could significantly impact the accuracy of the Garmin, Mevo+ or even Trackman.

The Garmin does not allow putting and can be hit or miss indoors.

I do realize Garmin doesn't have putting feature, but did not know that it performs better outdoors and has issues indoors with accuracy
