Yet Another Garage Build

So this is my first foray into simulator builds. I probably went through almost every build post there was while considering mine. There are some fantastic simulator builds that people have devoted a lot of time and money into and you all should be proud. As for mine, I am more the DIY type so I had fun looking at where I could save some $ as well as do a majority of the work. So here are some pictures and links to items I purchased. While it may not be as nice as a majority of the ones here on the thread, I had to take into account I live in Ohio and need to park my cars inside the garage during the winter. My wife also wants her car in the garage when not out and about. My work car also has to stay inside of the 3rd garage due to it being a dedicated K9 vehicle. So without any delay.

3 car garage, utilizing the 2 car side for the sim build.

I had a side mount Genie garage door opener and high lift track system installed that way the sim can also be used during the summer time.
Garage space is 20' x 19' with hitting and stance mat placed in the center. I am using a Mevo Plus for my sim on iOS (iPad Pro). I do not have the pro package for the Mevo.

The stance mat was a cheapo from Amazon and the hitting strip is Country Club Elite.

The putting strip is a 3'x14' from Birdie Ball.

The screen is from MeTech and is a 10'x10' with the mechanized roller system. All in all I love it and it works for me.

Nice build you got there.
For your side protection, did you add some weight to the bottom of the curtain or is it just hanging? I'm trying to understand if the side curtain will catch the low stinger shanks.

I take and role up the excess fabric around the bottom and either tuck a portion under my turf or let it lay there. I do have some black steel plumbing pipe, roughly 8', wrapped in pipe insulation that I have started using on the right side of my set up. We are all right handed hitters in my house. I have hit plenty of shanks and so has my daughter and the curtain with out the weight has done a great job of stopping shots. It needs to work as my work car is about 5 feet away on the opposite side of those curtains. You could take a 2x2 and wrap up in the bottom of the excess fabric to weight it down or do the metal pipe in insulation like I have moved on to. Many ways to hold it down. I use two kettle bells to stretch out the mesh sunscreen thats hanging behind my impact screen. The possibilities are endless. Hope this helps.

Do balls get through the area where the edges of your impact screen doesn’t fully connect to your side curtains?

I will be doing a very similar setup (i have the same motorized screen from metech) but I’m not sure the best way to do the side protection. Considered connecting additional rollers in a “U” shape but didn’t think they would/could connect to the impact screen that way either.

Also, those Amazon curtains appear to be really thin, but they haven’t torn on any shots you’ve hit into them?

So because I am a cheap DIY type I did the following. Behind my impact screen is a couple of old jujitsu mats that screwed into the wall. I used two of them as they are 12x4. So these will protect my wall where the impact screen does not cover. On the edges of the curtains I stapled (I do not own a sewing machine) the loop part of velcro along the edge and then fastened the hook part of the velcro to the wall. The strips of velcro run right long the edge of the padded mats on the wall creating a barrier from any shanks. While the curtains look thin they have done an amazing job of controlling the shanks with no signs of wear or tear from balls that have hit them.

Depending on how you mount the screen to the wall or ceiling you could run the curtain tracks like I used to run behind the edges of the screen. I think there are a million ways to skin the cat on this and you will have to find out which method will work best for you. I am sure I will end up changing some things around in the future. For now it does exactly what I need it to do.

The heavy-duty version is supposed to have a motor that can lift more weight but honestly, if you're just using an impact screen I'm not sure you need it. All are sold out at the moment and have been for the last little while.

Do you have a link for the metech roller?

If you call them they may be able to get you one. The have them on hold for potential orders but if someone has not paid and you pay they will provide one for you. Thats what they did for me.

I used a 10x10 sun screen protection tarp from amazon. I am currently updating my build now. I plan on putting 2" thick acoustic foam tiles behind the impact screen and on the ceiling to help with noise reduction and bounce back. The jujitsu mats I put behind the screen are too firm and have given me some high speed rebounds when hitting a ball low.

I am not sure what you mean by what construction is that screen. It came with the MeTech roller and I dont know any specs on it.

How did you wire up the roller motor? Thought it would have came with a plug but it just has the three exposed wires like a ceiling fan.

If you do not want to hardwire the wires you can buy a male or female replacement plug. Just search Amazon for "Electrical Replacement Plug & Connector Set" and you'll get a number of options. I am sure they are also sold at the big box stores.
