Questions on Sim build

I am in the middle of setting up my sim and was hoping to get help with a few items from those more experienced.

1. I have retractable 15’ 10” by 10 ft screen. How important is mounting the screen at the perfect height for aspect ratio (16:9) vs letting screen remain empty (white) or doing custom aspect ratio on the computer. My ceiling is slightly under 10 ft and would prefer to mount as close to ceiling.

2. Does anyone have recommendations for ceiling protection. I am thinking of hanging some plywood and then adding acoustic tiles. Any recommendation on high quality tiles? Everything on amazon looks incredibly cheap.

Personally I prefer the image to start at the floor - I have some minor "white" space at the top and do not really notice it.

Everything on amazon looks incredibly cheap. - your plan will help (and they are all quite cheap but they will slow down the ball a bit) but the balls will drive right through the foam and bounce off the plywood. depending on the height avail many use netting or baffles (Heavy cloth mounted like waves on the ceiling) again all designed to take speed off the ball.

There are several thicker foam panels available (google sound proofing wall tiles) but they can get quite pricey. These are quite nice: Individual Packs of 4 Panels – Tagged "fabric_Weave, color_Moondust Grey"– VantPanels.com there are many others.

Go to Projector Central and play with the throw distance calculator to see how you need to mount the projector to best fill your screen. My screen is a custom size. Viewable 93"x116" - 8'6 x 10'0 enclosure. I have about a 10" empty space at the top and the width is covered perfectly. It looks great. It does not bother me.

I have nearly the same size retractable screen as you. I have white space at the top and a little on the sides. Does not bother me at all. At that size screen you just don't notice it. And at that width I don't have any side walls. I couldn't shank one that far right if I tried. I also do not have any ceiling protection. And I was using a high tee height on the driver once and pop one up into the ceiling. But other than that one time it has not been an issue either. The bigger issue is the low worm burners that get under the bottom of the screen. I have to make sure I have enough screen rolled down to the bottom that there is some excessive. I need to eventually get something to weight the bottom a little bit.

derek1800 - I've found as long as you have black (cloth bumpers) on sides and cloth baffles up top (above where screen hangs) you can bleed over a good 4"-8" without much of a problem. It does away with the white stripes on the sides and you'll barely notice any of the image on the black.
