  • Mevo+ vs. Skytrak - Garage Build Questions

    Hello all,

I've been reading through the forum for a while now as I prepare my garage sim build. I have 16-17ft from the garage door to the net, and I am a lefty with some right-handed friends who will likely be regulars. I've built an 8'x4' platform to hit off with an insert in the center. Originally I ordered the Garmin R10 as the 6ft behind and 8ft in front left some buffer and offered enough capabilities for game improvement and simulator play. However, I've been informed I won't receive my unit until October so I've decided to look at some other options with similar capabilities. I've narrowed it down to the Mevo+ and the Skytrak. From what I've read on this forum and on manufacturer sites, these are how the units compare:
    Mevo+
Pros: Won't need to move the unit between players, solid accuracy, 6 E6 courses and 17 driving ranges included in the initial purchase, options to upgrade to pro package and different software later on.
Cons: Requires a minimum of 16ft total space but prefers about 20'+, requires the use of metallic stickers/RCT balls for accurate indoor use,
    Skytrak
Pros: Requires minimal space, solid accuracy
Cons: Having to move the device for lefties and righties, requires the purchase of software for simulator play.

My biggest concern with the mevo is obviously not having accurate data because of a lack of space. Can any current owners confirm if 16ish feet is actually enough?
With Skytrak, switching the device for different handed golfers seems like it would be inconvenient. Do any current owners have solutions for this or can you attest to the ease of moving the device and changing the software?

Any advice on either units or recommendations for either would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm leaning towards the mevo+ and would like to purchase while the Master's weekend special is on however, I don't want to rush the decision.
As a side, how do the second-hand markets hold up for both devices? I'm debating buying the mevo during the sale and switching if my results suffer.

Thanks for any guidance, I hope to have some follow up pics soon with the full build.

16 ft is tight. you need 8 ft behind ball for mevo , add 1 ft for the screen from the wall and that leaves you 7 ft ball to screen .

Sorry I should have been more clear, I have about 17ft of space and was planning to hang my net 8-12" off the wall, leaving me with around the minimum distance of set-up/ball flight. I'm wondering how the device performs with 8ft behind and 8ft of flight as I've read that 13ft or more of flight generates better results and at the bare minimum distance I won't have any wiggle room to move the device.

I have similar length 16', and went with the Garmin Approach R10 radar LM unit. I've heard that Mevo requires slightly longer distances as you mentioned to get a accurate readings. You might want to research that, on your own, see what you think. Also the R10 is about 1/3rd price if budget is a concern.

    Good luck,
    -Brett

Hi Brett thanks for the response. How are you liking your R10? I originally ordered it but am too impatient to wait until October so I've decided to spend the difference and grab a mevo or skytrak. The research I've done has yielded conflicting testimonies with some users having success using 7' mevo to ball and 8' ball to screen while others report poor performance at 8' mevo to ball and 8' ball to screen. It sounds like swing speed will be a large factor. I'm also starting to worry that my garage will have too much interference for a radar-based unit. Have you experienced any interference-related issues with the R10? Obviously different devices but just curious if I might be overthinking the room setup requirements. Cheers

birdiejuicebud - I will be able to let you know fully in the next 7 days. I bought my R10 in Sept/Oct last year and tested it at the range, and then into a net at close range to simulate the space I will have in my shed - which I am just finishing up (including recessing the R10 into the back wall) to give me maximum distance R10->ball and ball->screen. You can see more details on my shed build at my post up here: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-build-finally
