  • 19th Hole Build

    Hi everyone,

I gleaned a great deal of info from the forum during my build and just though I would share my setup. I purchased the mevo+ in January and then started trying to figure out where I was going to put everything...haha. We have an out building that I was using for storage and while it's not ideal, it works. The building is 12'x20' and I took in part of the front porch, whigh gave me some room for others to stand while we are playing.

The building originally had a garage door at one end, peg board walls and the ceiling was at 8'. I raised the ceiling to 10.5'.

I don't have any before pictures but started taking them at this point.

The building had just enough power to light that work light, so I needed to get some more power down there. My brother is an electrician, so we installed a 60amp service in the building and then I was able to get to work. Next thing on the list was to expand the usable space. To do this, I took in part of the front porch, which gave me another 10'x4' of usable space. (the house in the background is my next door neighbor) The entire building will get painted white, once the weather clears up.

Next I had to run the rest of my electrical, insulate everything and then finish the inside. I absolutely hate putting up insulation....even with a tyvek suit, you still get it all over you. I used plywood as the wall covering in the interior.

Next was paint, cleanup, installation of lights and mini split. At this point, I wasn't 100% sure which projector I was going with, so I put two mounting locations in the ceiling. One for a short throw and one for a regular throw. The HDMI cables are run to a plate where my ipad/computer will sit.

Now that everything was in the dry and climate controlled, I was able to start on the floor. I created a raised floor with 2x3's and then topped it with 11/16" plywood. This allowed me to recess my CCE hitting strips into the floor. Since the building is so narrow, I have one for left and right hand hitting. I put a thick carpet pad over the plywood and then stretched grizzle grass over that. In the area where people will stand when not hitting, I put down some cheap laminate and then base boards and quarter round.

Since I have 8' from mevo to ball and then 10' from ball to screen, I didn't want an enclosure to interfere with my driver club path, so I needed to come up with some way to keep balls out of the ceiling and off the walls. I used some nets and while its functional, I don't love the look. I will eventually go another route but it works for right now.

I started with an Epson projector but it just couldn't cut it, so I ended up going with a Panasonic VMZ50 and I love it.

The pictures below are as it currently sits. We have been playing on it for a couple of weeks now and it's so nice to be able to go down there, no matter the weather and play golf.

I also 3d printed this mevo sled, so I could slide it back and forth, depending on which hand is hitting. I'm not sure if its going to work like I wanted but we'll see. We are all right handed, so I haven't had a need to move it yet.

I am building a headcover/putter rack that will take the place of the masters towel on the back wall. My new stools will be in today or tomorrow. Below is most of the details of equipment.

    Mevo +
    Ipad running E6
    Panasonic VMZ50
3 layer screen material from dbgolf72
    Enclosure fittings from A1 Tarps
    Grizzley grass
    CCE hitting strip
    Daikin MiniSplit

    8' from mevo to ball
    10' from ball to screen

Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks
    Trey

Are you able to share the sled 3d build details? That's exactly what I'm looking for in my sim.

Very nice space you got there. I would recommend going with a short throw projector to avoid any potential shadows while swinging

Thank you. I have the projector positioned high enough that I don't cast a shadow while standing over the ball. My club does cast a shadow, when I swing but I'm good with that.

Such a momentary shadow doesn't seem worth worrying about for personal use, especially if you aren't looking at the screen when it occurs.

tullgolf - Wow, wow wow - Congrats! It looks amazing... and I like how it's built out in a shed, as I'm doing myself.... Did you do the construction work on your own? Really nice! Mine is too narrow (11.5') to allow for L/R golfers, so I'm offset and only have Righties play in my Sim

Brettster, if I am not mistaken, tullgolf said this space was 12' as well. Although there was some additional width built on, it does not appear that it is used for the purpose of stance location. Instead, I just see two offset hitting strips and the one for the right-handed golfer looks like it's about in the same spot as you set yours up in isn't it? Since I am most likely going to also have a 12' wide space, this is of particular interest to me.

I see g_gryphon - you're right... I just don't feel I'm going to make accomadations for left/right golfers... too much work, and all my buddies are righties

Brettster I'm in the same boat and will likely set up my space for only righties as well but it is good to know I could do both.

Thanks. I did all of the work myself. The 11.5' will work for both lefties and righties but you will need to hit from different locations.

Just amazing tullgolf ! How long did the whole project take? I'm coming up on 6 months myself.... also did all the work myself, zero help. I can't say it's the best way to do it, but it did get completed.

Thanks. I was glad to get mostly done with it and get onto using the sim.

Thanks. When my buddies and family first came to look at it, they had no idea it was in that building.

Love that you set it up for righties and lefties. I'm a lefty myself and I am doing the same thing (two recessed hitting strips) in my simulator room. I thought I was crazy accommodating for righties as well as myself.

How is the noise? I have wondered what it would be like for the club-ball and then the ball-screen impact in that size space. I have a bunch of space but still feel that the sound is borderline and I am thinking of sound absorption panels of some kind.

I am also running a Mevo+ with E6 off an Iphone and am a little frustrated that it has the aspect ratio of the phone. I see yours fills your screen when on your home screen, does it fill it up when running E6 too?

Sound isn't bad at all. I mean you know when you hit a driver but it's not bad. Yes, with my new projector, E6 fills the screen. Try turning your phone on it's side.

tullgolf I have a slightly smaller space than yours so I think a full enclosure won't work as it might interfere follow through. I like your net setup. Did you attach the net directly to your EMT screen frame? Also, what size screen did you go with?
