Roller Blind as a Screen

Hi all,

I have a skytrack setup in my garage. Basically I hit into a net return and watch my shots on a tv mounted to the wall.

The problem with the set up is we can no longer park two cars in the garage so I am planning on changing it up to something that packs away pretty easily. I have a pretty good idea what to do with the hitting mat (I will make it hinge up against the wall) but really need to find a away for the net to takeup less space.

I am currently thinking of using a roller blind to hit into. Either just as it would come from the shop or possibly cutting out part of the blind and sewing in an archery baffle or impact screen instead. Alternative I could just sew an archery baffle onto the roller blind to make it stronger.

Has anyone tried anything similar, any suggestions if it would work or not?

I am based in Australia so don't really have easy access to any of the retractable screens I've seen advertised.

I used some roller blind components to build a sportscreen like setup in what I called the Mk2 version of my garage build. It worked really well...for a while. The roller tube was great, better than what you get from the sport screen, but the attachment hardware just wasn't designed to handle the dynamic loading of an impact screen, even though the static loading specs suggested it was over-qualified, and so would continually fail. Better off just going with a sport screen or maybe the METechs one but I don't have any experience with that.

The motorized roller kits from metechs are great but I would not recommend their impact screen. I got both from them and the screen almost immediately started coming apart, and I hit driver into it less than 10 times - not even swinging hard. If you get the motorized roller from metechs and get your impact screen somewhere else you’ll have a very nice setup.
