  • Changing from basement to garage

I currently have a decent setup in my basement 15x22x9, but we are moving in a month. The next house may not have a basement or an extra room to make a simulator room.
I might have to set it up in the garage (use only 1 car space)
What is something that I need for the garage build that I didn't need for the basement?
    This is my current setup

    nice setup

most garages are about 12 ft wide, so you may have to change your enclosure. Not sure what your current width enclosure is.

also you may have to deal with the garage door frame and opener. Most likely you will have to move the opener or take it down completely

depends on how far back the frame goes

post pics and dimenson of your new garage and I will give you some options

    thx

Thanks. Current enclosure dimension is 13x8.5x5. The garage is about 22'x22'x9'3". I'm willing to change the garage opener to the side opener and raise the rails if needed.
I currently have the dricore flooring, putting green, and gung-ho holygrail mat on top of each other. Making the height to 8'7" and I rarely scrape the ceiling.
I'm hoping the garage set up will have a little more height space, also less heat/cold issues during summer/winter times.

You had better plan on using the whole width of the garage. You can put the mat, LM etc in the middle of the garage and just park you cars over it when you are not using the simulator. You can buy a tarp to cover the whole setup on the floor to keep you cars from dripping whatever on the mat.

My garage is about 20 feet wide and there is no way I could use the sim and park a car next to it unless I wanted to fix a lot of dents and scratches on the car. Everyone hits a hosel rocket or sky ball every now and then regardless of their handicap. I have had people with + handicaps almost take out the GC2 and would have except for the metal protective case. If there was a car next to the GC2 they would have made a dent in the car.

Are you using the same screen enclosure in the garage? Will the side panels become an issue with parking a car? Which side of the garage will the screen be on? Do the garage floors slope away from the house?

Consider a retractable set up for the garage if you plan on also using it for parking. That will be a necessity if you hit towards the door. You also need to make sure you have good wifi coverage or ethernet to the garage and may need to have someone do some electrical work if the outlets aren't in the right place at the moment. in addition to raising the rails (or going off center) and using a side mount, some other options are (a) switching from conventional doors to barn doors or (b) switching from conventional doors to a roll up door.

I made an EMT cage 10' wide, 9' tall, and ~6' deep to fit a middle stall of 3 car garage. It has lower walls from 6' to 14' back to further protect from shanks, etc. and keep family from parking bikes, etc. in my sim! Hit 11' from screen. Screen side is nearest overhead door when closed. I had door track rails raised and switched to wall mount opener.

Couple considerations: slope of garage floor. Mine slopes mostly right to left (for righty, feet to tee). I built it up slightly under gym mats with layers of 1/8" hardboard to try an offset under teeing area. It's mostly mitigated, although towards screen slower putts occasionally break right. Had about a 1/4" drop and wanted to remove any chance this was affecting GC Quad club data.

Climate control can be a big factor. I'm in Southwest Michigan. Heater was critical for winter when I get the most use of the sim. 80's, humid, no breeze feels quite hot to me in summer and I don't use then, but would rather be outside anyway.

I probably will get a new screen to fit the side. The house we wanted to move into didn't work out. So I'm thinking about finding a house with 3 car garage if it does not have any additional space in the house.
