Hey guys
As a long-time lurker on this forum, I've had some amazing inspiration from some of the builds on here. As well the abundant amount of information and people willing to help out and give advice and suggestions.
So I thought now would be a good time to add where I'm at during my GARAGE CONVERSION.
THE SPACE
It was a double garage that I removed the double-powered door. Studded the opening and added two pedestrian doors. One into a workshop, the other into an L-shaped space that will house the golf sim. Visually if you take a square, divide it into 4 equal quarters, the bottom right is the workshop, the remaining 3 are the space I have left.
- L 5.5m x W 3m x H 3m (for the sim)
THE SIM STUFF:
Already purchased:
- Skytrak
- High end PC
- Golf Bay premium impact screen (3.3x2.5m)
- True strike mat
THE BUILD SO FAR:
Lifted the rafters from 2.2m to over 3m. What a job that was. Looking at what others have done, I took the advice and contracted a structural engineer to do the work. They have completely over-engineered it and we replaced the smaller existing 2x3 trusses with massive 2x7 and raised the ceiling to over 3m!
WALLS: I'm currently in the process of studding and insulting the exterior and internal walls.
ELECTRICS: First fix electrics hopefully coming next week.
LIGHTING: About to order some LED flat panel lights. I was going to order 4000k, I assume that is warm white (daylight). I'm not a fan of that blue bright harsh light.
THE IMPACT SCREEN:
Bought from Golf Bays UK.
Premium impact screen 3.3 x 2.5m
It is slightly too big for the back wall, I know, but I have a plan.
As the space is going to be multifunctional, I would like the screen to be retractable, but not convinced of a power unit, I'm happy to use a pulley to wind it up and down.
Q) I need a roller 3.3m wide, heavy-duty to take an eyeletted thick impact screen. I thought about using an outside foldway awning housing for patios. Any suggestions or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Once the screen is down I can tether the sides down before hitting.
WALLS:
To finish the walls I am considering sticking carpet tiles. Not only will it help retain heat, but help with sound deadening. Has anyone else done this?
Anyway, here are a few photos of the build to date, It's a massive mess at the moment. But once electrics are in I can start boarding out and work out what to do with the screen.
Many thanks - Jon
