New sim build, feedback needed!

Hey y’all, having a little backyard golf + office structure built in my backyard. Ended up adding a loft with a bed so I can maybe rent it out occasionally via airbnb and recoup some cost.

I have some renderings here that look pretty sweet, hoping to get this group’s feedback though —

* What could go wrong? Any big problems you see?
* Curious on materials recommendations in various places

I gave them some dimensions such at the start, but I don’t have the latest on those. It should be 9-10ft high in the hitting area, and I plan to mount my EYEXO up there. Not sure what I should use for a screen, I have a Carl’s place that’s pretty small that I probably will sell and buy something new. Also not sure how to handle the projector set up yet, I need to start researching some of the equipment again.

One of the more specific questions I’m wondering about is how much space I need behind the tee to ensure folks feel safe sitting behind.

That looks awesome. I would do a 15 long x 9 high x 5 deep setup for the cage. The only concern is the window and desk on right. . That possibly could get hit by a shank. With the ball 11 ft from wall and 5 ft from back wall you dont have a lot of room for guests to sit. Unless they sit in front of stairs or bathroom. Can you make the room 5 ft or so deeper?

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the space is tight - we have a very small backyard and we are placing the structure back there. Best I could do is shrink the hitting area, but I imagine that just creates more risk. 😬

Did I read the map right that you have 15' of depth from screen to back wall? If that is the case, NOBODY will be behind a golfer unless they are sitting on the stairs. I suggest you mock up an area where you can swing a club and get a direct feel for the dimensions needed for proper clearance (front, back, side, height from tee). Likely doable, but could be very limited for guests. I personally don't like guests as rounds take too long, but your intentions may differ.

Thanks y'all! I've asked the builder if we can make the space longer. I'm hoping for at least 4 more feet, but there are some limitations to the space we're putting this in - it's in the back yard, and the structure is subject to a bunch of city limitations (and the backyard is already tiny). We did a mockup and ideally there'd be 9-10ft behind the ball to feel comfortable sitting behind someone swinging.

By the way - I have a temporary area where I have a computer with screen to the right of the hitting area that I've been using for about 4 months and it's only been hit by a ricochet from the screen. If you think about a driving range, everyone is lined up side by side and people don't usually get hit.

How close do you think I can push the hitting area to the screen? Maybe if I can shift things up and get some good padding I can ensure that balls will come down? By the way, I'm using an EyeXO, so I don't need a long flight distance for radar measurements.

jroes - that's amazing! Where do you live and how much is the Air B&B cost to rent this?

I'm guessing you could move to 6' at the minimum. I'm at 8'-9' and have no problem, but I need the space for Radar Measurement.

Let us know what you ended up with, that's an amazing building, also would like to know the final cost on that and where you live? That's like a Dream Sim as far as I'm concerned, maybe the only thing missing is a shower (but maybe you have one in that bathroom)?
