  • Best mat to prevent golfers elbow?

I'm Now over 50 & falling apart... Developed golfers elbow this outdoor season (never ever had that issue before)

Today the snow started to fly soooo.......

What is the best mat for home sim set-up to prevent golfers elbow?

I've tried a lot of different mats and for me it was fiberbuilt that best helped with elbow issues.

I'm hitting off of the FiberBuilt Player Preferred and have no issues, love it.

I am using the Holy Grail from GungHo Golf. Best one out there in my opinion.

Country Club Elite is absolutely AWFUL!!! But bought a Divot Action and cut out a section of the CCE and put it in…all my problems were cured.

The Divot Action insert works well with a standard mat. We did the same with our CCE mat and liked it. For a new build we ordered the Fiberbuilt Player Preferred, really like the fell and stance.

The mat itself is irrelevant if you use a hitting strip. I use a Fiberbuilt 1x3 strip alongside a CCE mat. It's a bit problematic in that the hitting strip is taller then the CCE mat. The problem is easily solved with a plywood sheet under the CE mat.

Some don't like the Fiberbuilt strip because is really kills fat shots. My opinion is it does exactly what happens on the courses around here which are watered a lot especially during the hot months.

With this combo I can hit as many balls as I want in the sim without getting any wrist or elbow pain. Before with just the CCE mat it became a problem if hitting a lot of iron shots.

+1 for Fiberbuilt. Injury prevention was the key reason I went this way - no regrets - and most importantly - no injuries! I have Fiberbuilt Grass Series Combo mat.

                      • CCE hitting strip was brutal on my medial tendons.
                      • FB Grass strip is a great choice; very forgiving on joints; it feels like the ball is on a tee; absolutely awful for putting; it can promote a sweeping motion which I did not like.
                      • HG hitting strip (currently using for little over a year); forgiving on joints, I prefer the feel at impact on this hitting strip; great for putting; durability issues have been raised by other posters in the forum however I have not experienced that as mine is holding up very well.

I went with the Sigpro Softy for similar reasons. Still trying to finish my sim so I don’t have any feedback yet though.

Couldn't agree more on the CCE, I'm now looking for an insert because it's killing my elbow. Where'd you get your divot action from?

Can you buy the strip alone? Don't see that option on their website.

I was 66 when I built my simulator, using GCQuad. I started with the Country Club Elite hitting mat; must have been great marketing but it was absolutely hard on my wrist or elbow. My swing at that time was slightly more upright (makes things worse) than today, as I’ve perfected a more proper swing. To avoid the joint pain I have happily switched to Fiber Built with the upside down brush hitting area. I am super happy with this change, it reproduces fat shots well enough and is very smooth most of the time. However…it is possible to hit ‘down through’ the brush bristles and bottom-out your swing on the metal base when experimenting and that infrequent occurrence is more jarring than CCE.

The other thing I’d say is that FB-brush bristle hitting strip can create a bit of a hook by grabbing the hozel just as in real life if you are in longer grass - and only if you don’t clip the ball sweetly; a minor annoyance. When it does twist the club, that has created some finger joint pain which lasts for a few days if you misfit enough! I have just ordered a Sigpro Softy to compare/contrast. But FB hands down winner over CCE; the other popular mats I have no experience.

I now have 4 years wtth the Fiber Buit brush bristle model and and am 90% satisfied; wear shows but not enough to annoy. I probably get 500 shots/week x 200 weeks=100,000 shots, many of those shots are not of made-for-TV quality.

December update. As the brush/grass FB mat doesn’t putt all that well (though I use it all time) I evaluated the SIGPro Softy as an alternative which (after compensating for thickness/height change) I thought might be better for putting (yes) and a possible substitute for FB in injury prevention(no). Sticking with FB here. Softy was still too firm for down and through for old joints at 90mph irons. 15 years ago may not have cared.
