  • help on premium golf sim recommendation?

Hi Everyone!! Appreciate any help/guidance, open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance

So currently, this is my situation:
    • In the process of building a house and have enough room in my basement for a golf simulator
    • Budget-wise, I’m flexible, so willing to go 50k plus
    • Not a DIY person, so would prefer to have someone install everything all at once (the same brand may be easier and more convenient)
    • I am a left-hander so would need something which can compensate for playing with right-handers without having to move equipment around
    • Not a fan of having to mark clubs to get club data or needing to use special balls

As of right now, I have spoken to Trackman and Golfzon.
Trackman obv has the rep, and golfzon looks super cool with the tilting mats etc but worried about customer service i.e., if something breaks, how long would it take to fix it as it’s a Korean-based company.

    Thanks!!!

What are the dimensions you have to work with? The dimensions make a big difference in the type of unit you can select, the ease of LH and RH play, etc.

If you are in the process of designing the home that is a much better time to have this discussion then in the process of building the home. So that would be a nice clarification to help assist you.

just over 400sq in total, so looking at 9.5 feet in height. Just short of 20 feet in width and length is around 20 feet.

Good to know. So 20x20x9.5 means width and height are a non-issue. At 20' in depth the radar units such as Trackman are possible but require design considerations, such as seating. You will not be able to have seating directly behind the golfer because the trackman will need to be on the ground in that spot. You will want to have some sort of box, case, etc to protect the trackman from accidental kicking, tripping over, etc.

Obviously the Uneekor Eye XO meets your requirements on balls with dots, but the club stickers not so much. Trackman will require dots on the ball, also not meeting your criteria. GCQ requires not dots, but not RH/LH friendly. So I guess what I am trying to say is you may need to decide which necessary evil is most tolerable.

Personally I would (and did) eliminate all side sitting photo units such as GCQ. The inconvenience for LH and RH is too great, in addition to the unit being at risk of damage from folks walking by it.
Second, I would (and did) eliminate Trackman because of the noted shortcomings in indoor environments. Trackman might be the leader outdoors but indoors it is not. Additionally, the required cost for hardware and software plans and the cost of the simulator software all made the long term cost too great. Finally, the unit is also at risk, though much less, of damage from sitting on the floor while humans and dogs move around the space.

So now we get to my personal preference of overhead units. They are RH and LH friendly, they stay out of harms way from animals and humans, and they use the photo technology similarly to CGQ that is superior for the indoor environment. So the question becomes GCHawk v Uneekor. I chose the QED for the largest hitting area and lower cost. The Eye XO will give you more data and not require marked balls. The GCHawk will give the premium brand, Foresight resources and flexibility for soccer and other uses beyond golf.

Golfzon is something I have used in a commercial environment and it was a cool novelty, I didn't love the actual software used in their simulation but my knowledge on the product is too limited to provide a decent opinion.

Dots on the ball are not always required with TM (as commented above). TM has done a good job with updating their spin estimates or you could always get RCT balls from Titleist (best method for radar to get accurate spin measurements). You also don’t have to purchase the hardware sub and the software sub is $1k a year. At $1knotbis pricey, but their course replications are awesome and the software works flawlessly (easy to add cameras and extra screens). From a design perspective, you cannot go wrong.

my issue would be that your space is too tight for a TM sim. At 20ft, you won’t have much room for seating behind (unless you have more room for this in your plane. Given this, I think your best bet would be to go with either Uneekor or Hawk. Uneekor offers a sim software option that is very close to TMs and has some courses that I wished TM had. You can get there with the Hawk as well from what I understand, but it may be a bit of a process to work through to get it up and running. From what I have read, Uneekor and Foresight Hawk offerings are very close to each other, but I suspect there are more Uneekor users as it is more affordable. Both will require you to mark your clubs for data. I think Foresight has a build option that would come close to what you would get from TM (not sure on Uneekor, but they don’t, I am sure you can find someone who will get you an top notch install (suspect people in this forum can help with suggestions).

Figured I'd weigh in here as well...

I am just wrapping up on my Sim Build (Benq LK936ST Finally coming today!!!)

Here is a link with some pictures...I'll post more tonight or tomorrow once the flooring and projector are in place...

First time poster here... Been reading this forum for a long long time getting ideas and learning. So first and foremost a HUGE THANK YOU to this site and community for sharing all your great ideas and builds. I was going to build my sim in my Garage but the cost to remove the lollycolumns was over 12 grand, so I figured I

My space is 16 X 24 (finished is 15 X 23) and I wanted to ensure Left and Right handers can play so I also eliminated the GCQuad and any other floor standing photo unit...So my choices where the Hawk or Uneekor (Trackman was too pricey for me and I didn't want a radar system in the back of the room where people would be sitting...)

When I compare the features between the Hawk and Uneekor, I felt I just couldn't justify the extra costs for the Hawk which was 9k more than the Uneekor 13k if you wanted the club measurements....

As for your concern about stickers on the clubs...well I think that's a $13,000 decision only you can decide if it's worth it...I personally did not think it was...

I setup the Uneekor EyeXO yesterday before laying down the carpet so I knew where to cure the flooring for my hitting zone to ensure perfectly centered sensor and strike zone....

For what it's worth, I spent just under $21,000 building the golf simulator building of which $8,000 was for the concrete pad (the only thing I paid someone to do)
And the actual simulator hardware, enclosure, computer, 5.1.4 Atmos speakers, projector and flooring was another $25,000... The GCHawk with club analysis is listed at $23,500 by itself...so if your budget is $50,000 and you are paying someone to do it, then that's a substantial piece of your budget right there....

            Good luck with your build...

Curious if your budget includes everything for the room or just the "simulator" components. I went EyeXO as I wanted an overhead unit and didn't want to deal with special balls. Anyway, with the LM cost at $10K I probably spent close to $40K total on my simulator and I did it all myself except for insulation and installing the garage high lift. With yours being a new construction, you obviously won't have some of those expenses. I spoke with one company that does the installation for you and they said their entry point for all materials and installation for an EyeXO was about $30K but that's without a 4K projector (which given your budget you will absolutely want) or speakers/receiver.

In terms of the launch monitor, I totally agree with what Stetson said regarding the inconvenience of the floor standing units particularly if you're a lefty. I would be so annoyed if I spent $50K+ and playing a round with friends meant moving the thing between every shot.

Couple other things I'll mention is that uneekor is also a Korean company but their support has been fantastic. I can get a service appointment next day, they've been right on time and the techs I've spoken with have been both players and very knowledgeable of the hardware and the software. Additionally, I bought all my simulator stuff from Par2Pro and they were great to work with both pre and post sales. I've heard gungho is similarly well respected around here though I have no experience with them other than a hitting insert I ordered last week that shipped quickly and has been a huge upgrade over my CCE mat.

I'd Echo what PapaKlix said here with respect to Uneekor. I had an issue after installing my Uneekor software with the license key no longer working. I sent them an email and received a new key and all the files (I accidentally deleted from the USB Drive)...impressed with their customer service so far.

As for where to buy, I bought all my stuff from Carl's place and because I bought the Uneekor, and their premium enclosure they gave me a nice discount on the enclosure.

I've also read plenty of posts here complimenting both Par2Pro and GungHo so I would say you probably can't go wrong with any of those 3...
