  • New Trackman Sim Build. Finally finished!

What’s up everyone! I haven’t posted on here in over a year. I was originally on here trying to find different DIY sim builds after getting a crazy high quote from my local Trackman rep on them installing it for me. I decided to piece my sim room together over a few months time, well those few months turned into over a year to finally finish. I ended up building the entire sim room myself and took pride in not hiring anyone or spending extra unwanted monies on paying someone else to help. It took me a while as there were times where the job seemed overwhelming after a long day at work, but finally after about 14 months I have finished my sim room.

My total cost on the materials was around $11k. With the cost of the Trackman I ended up spending about $32k total for the build.

Below is a list of most everything that I used for the build…hopefully this helps other people in their future builds!

    - TFD Putting Elite putting turf
    - EZ Tee Hybrid turf hitting mat (Trackman recommends)
    - OneStopSimShop triple layer 501 Impact Screen
    - BenQ 4k Projector

Recap of my build...I had to cover the water pipe behind my build so I wrapped it with thick foam a few times and zip tied around it to add some protection (the pipe sits about 3 feet left of where the middle of the screen is so it really isn't in the way, I just wanted to be extra cautious). I used angled iron attached to 2x4’s to make my hitting bay and I attached the impact screen with bungee cords and a couple zip ties. I also attached velcro to the sides and top of my enclosure and the impact screen has velcro on it as well to attach easily. I have to say I’m very impressed with how the screen turned out, there are no wrinkles at all and I have a very clean picture. The turf is great and the hitting mat is very good, I have no aches or pains from hitting balls. I highly recommend the EZ Tee hitting mat, Trackman uses it in all of their installs. I finally bought velvet blackout curtains on Amazon for my sides to aesthetically make it look better and dampen any shots that don’t hit the screen. I bought black carpet from Home Depot to go above the screen for any wedge shots that don’t quite hit the screen. As for the lighting, I bought track lights from Home Depot and ran those above my hitting area.

One area that I wish I could fix is my surrounding turf. I made the mistake of gluing it down and when I installed the hitting mat it is raised about a quarter of an inch higher than the surrounding turf. I should have installed gym mats under the surrounding turf and never glued it down. Rookie mistake!

The only other thing I may do is paint the surrounding walls and ceiling black to make it look a little better.

I hope you all enjoy and ask me any questions you want! I appreciate everyone's help throughout the entire process!

Looks good. What is the ball flight distance? Are you going to get good reads from the trackman?

Thanks! The distance from Trackman to where I hit is just over 7 feet. Distance from where I hit to my screen is 12 feet.

I’ve had it for 4 months now and all of the numbers seem very realistic. I am impressed with Trackmans software.

Cool. Didn't look like you had that much room in the pictures.

how is the feel hitting off the mat as it has only fibers no underlay backing...is it squishy to stand on, what about club going through the turf..I think getting the hitting surface right is the hardest part about building a sim on a budget, as there are so many options...

I bought a hitting mat from rain or shine golf and thought it was decent, but then I hit on my buddies mat and it was a night and day difference to me!

I would highly recommend the EZ Tee Hybrid turf hitting mat for any sim build. To me it’s as realistic as it gets. I have zero pain from hitting balls.

Good job Hawkman23 - you've made an excellent choice with TrackMan. I don't have the room that you do (looks like 19' minimum - total) as I'm at 15'6" even with my LM recessed into the back wall! Looks great!

Thanks! I was a little concerned with the small 90* wall that comes out about 12 foot from the screen but it doesn’t get in the way. Only downfall is it would be difficult for lefties to hit down there.
      Working...
