  • How to cover up the front edge of your built platform....

So much great info on here but the last thing I am getting stuck on and I hope I can get some help. So I am building my home sim with a 1 inch foam base and the turf sitting on top. The sides of this will sit flush with the wall but the front side will be sitting on top of the existing flooring where there will be a seating area back behind. So the question .... what can you use to "cover" up the front edge so you don't see the foam and front edge of the turf?

Thank you all for your help!

You can place some wood or moulding trim between the turf and other flooring. Or there's some flooring transitions that might work.

I attached a couple pics. 1 of them has foam plus turf at 2" tall and just ends on the concrete. I used 2" tall PVC moulding to cap it. The other pic has foam plus turf at 1.5" thick and butts up to carpet. I stained some wood at 1.5" thick and placed between the turf and carpet. Hope this helps.

Interesting. Hadn't thought about doing some trim there.. Thanks for the advice!

I am looking to do something similar. Do you just put some adhesive strips under the PVC moulding to keep it in place?

When I did this, I used a 2x6 so it acts like a ball stopper from going out in the garage. It sticks up about 1 1/2 above the turf. My platform is 4 inches in height to accommodate slope and the hitting strip to be flush.

Yeah that's cool. I've seen people do that to keep balls contained in the sim area. The only downside is it creates a tripping hazard but that's easily managed.

How'd you build your platform to account for the slope of the garage? I've thought about doing this in my garage as I'm always hitting on an uphill lie.

BJMDO For the PVC trim, I used construction adhesive to attach to the foam subfloor and then shot some nails to keep it in place. I didn't glue to the concrete. In the picture above, it's been there for about a year now and still looks great.

I cut the 2x4 in an angle to align with the slope. Had to use a few shims but very pleased how it turned out. Attached is a couple of images so not really too worried about tripping.

Scottygolf Yeah that makes sense. And then put down OSB or plywood to cover the 2x4s and then put down foam flooring plus turf? You just use a circular saw to cut the 2x4s at an angle?

Yeah, I used a handheld circular saw, once I had one done I used it as a template and went from there. I screwed the 2x6 in to the ends of the 2x4's. Wrapped it in Home Depot indoor outdoor rug that was thin but looked good. Stapled into the 2x6.

I actually have 2 pieces of plywood down. I put a vaper barrier between the 2 pieces just to prevent from squeaks. Then cut out the sport for the insert so my divot action hitting strip was flush one I added my turf. I will add an image

Scottygolf That's cool, looks good! Yeah don't want any squeaks. Ha that would drive you nuts! My setup is similar in how narrow it is and my screen is square. What are those upholstered panels on your right wall? Looks like you just velcro'ed to the wall?

They are 2x4 vinyl wrestling pads from AK sports and they use Velcro to stick to the wall. Downside, when you try to take down the panels to make updates, the velcro is so strong it rips the sheet rock paper, so they are now stapled into the rock. Updated photo of the room as it sits today. No changes other than a TV in the future.

the room is 10' 4" wide

Scottygolf Awesome setup man! Very cool atmosphere!

Oh yeah I've seen those pads from AK, they're nice. I wonder if they'd do custom sizes cuz my ceiling height is 10.5ft. Haha yeah, the velcro connection is stronger than the adhesive! I've found this out as well so yeah stapling the 1 side of the velcro into the sheetrock is needed.

Thanks, the last is like version 7. Added the Brick panels this fall which very pleased how it turned out.
Started out with the basics like most and slowly make changes over the last 4 years plus it is easier to swallow financially and get by the wife!

You can stack the 2x4 and then lay one as a 4x2 and you get your 10 ft. The bottom foam was all the insert foam that PXG used to used. The stuff was great.

Only thing on the vinyl pads, make sure your garage is over 60 degrees. Found out the hard way with the wife and a hosel rocket she left the heat at 55 degrees and cracked the pad. Typically, I turn it up to 63-64 degrees which is perfect (no wind).
