Net Height

It's looking more and more like I will have to go with a Net and TV for my outdoor set-up. My dream of doing an Impact Screen w/ ground projector OUTSIDE just has too many variables that can go wrong.

The two nets I'm looking at are the SigPro Golf Net and the Net Return Pro Series V2 Golf net. The first one is 7' tall and the second one is 7'6" but has an extender that increases the height an additional 8-10".

How concerned should I be with the height of the net? I have visions (nightmares?) of hitting a 58-deg wedge over the net and into my neighbor's house/backyard. Because of the size of my yard and HOA Rules, I cannot go with an enclosure as most are 10' and that is higher than the outside walls of the house.

Way more concerning than a wedge is a popcorned driver. Depending on how far you plan to stand away from the net, the 8’10” option should certainly cover you.

I’d be nervous at that height. But as jpinkardvt says, it really depends how far away from the net you will be hitting. My ceilings are 9’ and I am hitting 10’ away from the screen (what would be your net) and several times I have hit the ceiling in front of my screen (which in your scenario would go over the net).

I’ve seen net setups that have a net “roof”. Could you add one of those? Or add something at the bottom of the net which would be padded (to handle any super low shots) but which would increase the overall height?

if you are circa 6’ away from the net, I think that would massively reduce the risk. Just my $0.02

You should be very concerned. Before I moved into Shed, I put this net up in my back yard, hitting from about 8'-10' back from it and I did exactly what you are saying. Skied a few drivers over the net into the neighbors yard (almost into their house). I think I was 10' back, and once I moved to 7'-8' back it was not a problem again.... but I'm not sure. I'll dig around as I think I took a picture of me hitting into this with my Garmin Approach R10 LM sitting behind me in my backyard.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am SO worried about this. For the record, I'm a scratch golfer (well...0.4 to be exact), so I don't expect to popcorn a driver as I can't remember the last time I did that. My initial thought is that I move as close to the screen as possible once I'm inside 135 (PW and lower). For this reason, I think going with the Net Return (which, with the extension, can be an additional 12-14" higher than the SigPro) makes the most sense at this point. Perhaps I can "channel" my inner "handyman" and figure out a way to increase that net height another foot or so.

I should also mention that I will be using a Foresight GC3 launch monitor, which will allow the hitting area to be slightly closer to the net than a radar-based launch monitor!

I have been looking into a Sporina net for my garage build now since I may not be able to go with my impact screen setup I was hoping for. They have an extension on the top that is angled toward you for catching high wedge shots. Nice for my scenario since it is collapsible - not sure if you will be looking to use in the garage at all! Also, I think they have a projector screen attachment (or you could make you own) and eventually try to move to some sort of a projector setup.
