  • Computer recommendations? A few other questions...

    Hello All,

I am in the middle of building a simulator in my garage. So far I have purchased a Mevo+ and a BenQ LU935ST. I am planning on ordering a customized enclosure with a premium screen from Carl's in a 16:10 format that is either 105.5"x163" (96.5"x154" screen) or 102"x158" (93"x149" screen) with a 60" depth.

The size depends on how much buffer I leave off of the side wall. Any recommendations on that? Right now I am hoping to leave just 3 inches of buffer between the side of the enclosure and the wall. Is that enough? Can I get away with less?

I plan to mostly use the setup as a simulator, but I also hope to watch the occasional movie out there as well. Any recommendations on a desktop or laptop? I had planned get a gaming laptop so that I can take it out of my garage when I'm not using it, but I also don't want the computer to lag behind the projector and program.

I have yet to decide on a hitting mat and turf. I am planning on ordering that through Carl's as well. I plan to get one that accommodates both righties and lefties. I will probably go with a more inexpensive local product for the surrounding turf.

    Any advice is appreciated!

I went with a gaming laptop from BestBuy. The graphics card seems adequate, and I’ve been happy so far.

OlyGolfer - SteveMac shows a computer (Acer Nitro 5) with a Nvidia 3050 graphics card... the one I bought (MSI GF65 known for gaming) has a Nvidia 3060 graphics card which is a step up from the 3050, provides greater longevity and more CUDA Cores.

The one I bought (the Nvidia 3060 graphics card) is compared (to the Nvidia 3050 graphics card) like this:

For those wanting their build to last the test of time, and also provide them with legs for slightly higher-end gaming, the RTX 3060 is surely not a bad bet.

The 3060 provides more VRAM, CUDA cores, and RT cores – all helping performance to step-up a notch. The 3060, then, is our clear winner for top-tier 1080p gaming

Here is the Laptop Computer I recommend (coming from a Software Engineer for 35+ years):

I would recommend a 3080 or equivalent earlier models using 4k.
