4K Worth It and Graphic Card Options

I am working on a new simulator room and was thinking I would upgrade my projector at the same time. I was previously running a BenQ TH671ST in 16:9 at 1080p. My graphics card is an RTX 2070 Super.

My new screen is going to be a 16:10 format that is just short of 16’ wide and 10’ tall. I was contemplating going to the BenQ LK936ST so I could get the 16:10 format in great resolution while also getting 4K 16:9 for movies and future gaming for the kids. I now realize I likely need to upgrade my GPU to a 3080 or better for this resolution.

Have people found that going to 4K is worth it? With a screen that gets hit with golf balls, can you tell a difference at this size? If so, what are the latest recommendations on where to get a trustworthy RTX 3080 Ti or a 4080? I think the rest of my PC is sufficient (9th gen i7 with 16G RAM), but I think the GPU is definitely going to need an upgrade.

BenQ 671 to the 936 would be a huge upgrade! The 936 is much brighter and higher res so you'd get benefits from both. Just like TVs, as the screen size gets larger, you benefit from a higher resolution so you would notice the 4k bump with that screen size. I installed a 936 in a 16x9ft setup and looks awesome! You do need a good quality screen.

The 936 is a 16:9 native projector, so if you plan on golf and movies, I would recommend to just run 16:9 all the time or else you have to change the zoom if changing from 16:10 to 16:9. So you might consider just a 16x9ft screen instead.

For GPU, yes you'll want a 3080 or better. I also have the 936 and have a 3080ti gpu and works great. It also depends on all the other monitors you have and the software you're running. If replacing your gpu, you also need to check the power supply. I have 850W in my 3080ti machine. I think 750W might be fine though but you'll need to check power requirements. Not sure on best place to look for a gpu, maybe Best Buy and Newegg.

I was planning to do another Carl’s Premium screen. Is that still considered one of the best available?

boozcruz33 I've never used the Carl's Premium but hear it's really good. I'm sure it'll work fine. The 501 screen from OneStopSimShop is what I've used in a couple builds (with 4k and 1080p) and really good picture quality and quiet. And can fully customize to whatever you need. The screen I have is the Par2Pro SQ screen on a retractable roller and looks good.

Brettster Here's a couple pics. My screen is 10ft wide and I project in 4:3. 1 pic is just my desktop picture and the other is a course in the game. for the game picture, you can see some color bands which is from my camera taking a pic at some rate that picks up the color wheel of the DLP projector, so you don't see that IRL. Hard to pick up the detail in a photo, especially because I had to downsize to something ridiculous that GSF would allow.

I upgraded from the th671st. I have 16:9 Carl's premium 14 ft wide. 3080 card and went with benqtk700sti. The print is easier to see across the screen vs blurring on the edges with the th671st. It was worth it to me and that's not even the 936 upgrade.

Hey fellas , I have an Aboutgolf system, Panasonic XV600 projector , 2060 graphic card. Cloth screen


screen is 12'w x 9' tall. Projector is 14' to screen.
looking at going to 4k and 3070.
Is the clarty there with a cloth screen ? And the picture worth the upgrade?
