  • Small but useful updates to my LED spotlights and screen protection

While the two LED light strips that were added a couple years back really helped illuminate the putting surface and hitting mat, it also washed out the screen a bit more than I wanted. Using the ReShade program has helped make the colors in TGC pop a bit more but it didn't fix everything. I had an idea to make little cone/light-shade things on each of the LED lights so I finally got the ladder out and used small pieces of duct tape to add 1-2" light shades on the side towards the screen. My photos don't do it justice, the picture is popping off the screen now. It is most noticeable on the bottom half of the screen.

Once I finished adding those light shades, I wanted to do something about the foam protection. As can be seen between the first two pictures, the foam barrier on the bottom of the screen has taken a beating over time. I usually repair it with duct tape but the center 6' was starting to get shredded. While getting my ladder out I saw an old roll of putting turf that i had trimmed off the main piece in the sim room. I remember seeing someone on this forum using some extra turf as their protection and decided to see what i could do with. The strip was roughly 1'x15' so I wrapped it around the foam and taped the edges down.

I did these updates the first week of January. Have had several friends over so the protection had some extensive testing and performed incredibly well. Deadens the ball upon impact and it doesn't appear I'll have to be doing much repairs on it in the future. Small updates but very happy with the changes!

And you might have noticed I've tried a bunch of hitting mats. First the Country Club Elite 5'x5'. Then Rain or Shine 4'x5' followed by the 5'x5'. Now onto the Fiberbuilt 9'x4' since I had some elbow/tendinitis issues. Been extremely happy with the Fiberbuilt, only issue is that the ball doesn't putt well off the center area. Thankfully the QED hitting area is wide enough that I can use the last few inches of the stance mat to putt from.
