  • DIY Build Guidance

    Hey Yall,

I am looking to get some guidance on my build. I have ordered a Carl's place 9x12 enclosure, a sig pro softy hitting strip, and Garmin R10. I need help with how to block this wood support beam. My sim is set up for righties only due to width constraints. I am not concerned about myself slicing a ball and hitting the wood beam but I don't want others to do it and cause damage to themselves. The pole is floor-to-ceiling

If you have ideas on how to block it I would appreciate it!!

Also, let me get your opinion on my design. All feedback is appreciated (good or bad).

    Thank you!

Kind of hard to judge by your sketch but my initial thought would be to build a panel/wall off the beam at an angle so that any hit would shoot it towards the screen.

How close is the wood beam to your hitting area? If it's similar to what you show on the picture, you won't hit it with slice or shank. You could potentially hit it with a toe shot though (I've done this on my sim when I made a practice swing too close to the ball). If you're worried, wrap some pool noodles or some denser padding around it. A ball toed that badly isn't going to have all that much energy.

I agree, if the plan is to scale and accurate then I wouldn’t worry with any type of dangerous ricochet. My enclosure is 10ft wide with my right wall being closer than your support post, I’ve never hit the wall at that approximate angle or come close.

Maybe wrap the post in one of these, covering the corner that is facing you.

Gym wall padding in custom colors for basketball, school gymnasiums, sports, and home gyms. Shop our wide selection of protective wall pads now.

It's would be too dense/bouncy if it were against a wall, but shaped like a column wrapped around that post I think it would deaden the strike sufficiently enough to at least remove the potential for getting brained by an errant shot. Keep it loose, like a Nascar "safer wall". I also agree with mjgolf123, a toe shot isn't going to have any significant velocity. (??)

Don't underestimate how much room you will want behind the hitting station. If you have lefties, I have concerns about the position of the table though that should be an easy fix.
