  • Hitting Mat vs. Strip

    Good morning GSF,

Just posting to see what you guys have done and any insight you may have on hitting mats and strips. If you go the hitting strip route, do you just cut that size out of your stance mat? Id love to hear what you guys have done or any how-to's. I am looking at the CCE mat without a hitting strip, but I am trying to get a feel. Thanks for the replies!

Easiest is to get whatever stance you want and then just put the hitting strip adjacent to a stance mat edge.

Stance mats and hitting strips serve two different functions. The stance mat must be firm enough so you don't squish around when swinging. The hitting strip must be compliant enough so you don't injure your wrists and forearms from the continual pounding they take hitting a lot of sim shots.

Unless you are an avid real golf range person you will hit a hell of a lot more shots on the sim then you ever did in green grass practice or golf.

Depending on how much of a divot taker you are will determine the combination. If you are a sweeper then a CCE mat can serve as stance and hitting surface. If you are a divot taker then a CCE mat for stance and and a Fiberbuilt strip on the side is a good combination. There are many other combos which forum members can suggest.

I use the Bullseye Hitting strip in my putting turf and love it. Great felling to hit off and no joint pain anymore

I created a hitting "area" with batting cage turf and exercise mats underneath it. Then I cut out an area to insert a Holy Grail hitting strip. The hitting strip sits flush in the cut out hole of the turf and mats.
I really like the strip for how it more realistically reacts to fat shots. You can get away with those more off of a mat. I tend to pick the ball more so not as concerned about wrist fatigue, but that's a nice side benefit also.

Much less expense to change out a hitting strip if you either do not like it, or it does not perform well - and of course when ultimately it is time to swap it out. I wen the combo-mat route from Fiberbuilt. Super happy with that choice - kinda the best of both worlds.

Looking at getting a bullseye hitting strip. I have 2 questions:

            1) how is it for putting?

            2) I have a few lefties that play and their stance would be on the hitting strip because I have to offset tee box from center of screen. Will this be a major problem?

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
