  • How big should my enclosure depth be?

Hello, looking for help for my simulator build out...I know the following:

    - My enclosure will be about 14 feet wide and 9.5 feet tall
    - I have a Mevo+ with 8 feet from device to ball, and 12 feet from ball to impact screen.

Based on this info, what depth do you recommend for my enclosure?

My main concern is a driver head hitting the crossbar, or some high angle shot missing the enclosure and hitting the ceiling. Also, shanks to the side would be a problem is depth is too little.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or lessons learned.

That is a pretty large enclosure. I can't see how your driver would be anywhere near the enclosure if you are 12'0 from the screen. And it is 9'6 high. As far as shanks, my enclosure is 10'0 wide and I hit from about 11'0 back. My occasional shanks hit the right back corner of the enclosure (which is 5'0 deep) and bounce around a bit. Your screen is much wider so your shanks would likely still hit the screen. But I would say 5'0 deep should be good.

      Hey Larry,

Great question, we would recommend making your sides at least 3'6" deep for that size enclsoure.

      Best,
      Jake

What is your lighting like in the room? The reason I am asking is because I am in the middle of a build and the sim will be in my shop which is very well lit. I have a 5' deep, 10'x13' enclosure, but I am hanging extra 1" conduit to support ceiling and wall curtain material from Peak's Tarps, all the way back to my tee area, (mevo+ also) 13' from the screen, for two purposes. One is for to catch miss hits, and the second is for blocking out some ambient light. It may be a little overkill but I won't know for sure until I am finished, lol. I figure better safe than sorry.

I plan to add can lighting or track lighting to light up my tee area.

I am not comfortable with a 5 foot deep enclosure while hitting 12 feet from screen. I will likely have some novice golfers using my system, and who knows where they will shank the balls.

My set up is in a garage...I plan to hit towards a side wall, and mostly have my garage door open. If I shank a shot, I would likely take out a window...that is why I need as much enclosure depth as possible without the swing arc of someone using a driver.

You could extend the sides with just hanging netting instead of a full frame, That's what I plan to do shortly.

Use side netting. If you’re worried about missing the enclosure.

If your enclosure is only 9.5' high than you will want to balance the distance it extends out to protect from Sh@N%^s and a free and unobstructive golf swing. From a hitting position of 12 feet I would not want the enclosure in my "View" or "Sightline" during follow-through even if I do not hit it. Most everyone will subconsciously pull back during follow-thorough - just human nature.

I would say 7 feet would be the absolute max and I would recommend 5 feet as a standard length. Per the above two posts - extend with netting if desired/required - at least you can angle the netting to stay away from swing path. If you insist on a larger side/top measurement, I would encourage you to look at raising the height to at least 12 feet if possible. From there you can pretty much go back as far as you like.

                My two cents.
