I would love to get anybody's opinion on what route to go for HVAC for my sim room. This room is attached to our carport and is basically meant for storage. I live in West Tennessee where the summers get brutally hot and the winters can get down to freezing for weeks at a time.I have added the temp and humidity data from a Wi-Fi thermometer. I recently got it insulated. I also added ventilation last summer to see if that helped get some of the heat out but didn't make a huge difference. I used one industrial drum fan as well as a smaller box fan as well. I used a Mr. Heater Tank Top 15,000 BTU Radiant Propane Space Heater during the winter that quickly warmed the room up to 60+. It was fine, but trying to figure out if it's worth the money to get a heater/cooling system like a mini split or only focus on AC.
I am considering everything from:
- Buying a portable air conditioner for summers and keep using the propane space heater for winters. Are these a waste of money? Will it be enough to consistently cool an insulated 225sf room?
- Mini split - I assume this is the best and most expensive option)
- Window unit - would require cutting out a window which I don't mind that much for additional lighting but probably the worst option.
I don't have much time on my hands with work and two girls under 2 years old, so would probably hire the job out but could possibly DIY it if not too extensive of a job. I'm pretty capable but rather pay somebody if it's going to take me 8+ total hours to do and a tough solo job.
Additional help: insulated wall and ceiling covering. I got 2 quotes to drywall and both were arond $4k which seemed entirely too high for me. I'm considering doing that same black curtain behind the net on both sides of the room, add some pegboard (painted black) to the crevices for additional storage, and either do same curtain or plywood boards for ceiling. Any and all help appreciated on this! Thanks!
