Hey everyone, new here
recently got started on building my sim room in my house. Have 1" EMT frame 8w x 7`3h x 3d (limited by room dimensions). Have a 10x10 net that i attached to EMT with bungees, i attached it a little bit narrower on the sides and shorter at the bottom, probably functionally 9x9. currently have laminate floating floor that i covered with puzzle foam. Hitting off of fiberbuilt flight deck. Garmin R10 7ft to mat, 9.5 ft mat to net. Had to put 4 layers of puzzle foam on my stance mat to get level with the flight deck.
Issues/questions with my setup:
1) the puzzle pieces don't perfectly fit the dimensions of my room and i would need to buy quite a few more and cut them. they are on the expensive side and i assume there must be some good alternatives. I was thinking of using 0.5-1" rigid insulation to cover the entire floor of the room. This would be pretty cheap, easy to cut to size and i believe would still be quiet when the ball rebounds off the net and hits the floor.
2) my net is attached at the bottom with only 1 bungee at the middle so that i have a good amount of slack to absorb the shot. Works well from rebound point of view. I covered the EMT with pipe foam insulation, but it often pops off after impact where the bungee is attached. Is there a better way to secure the bottom net and keep the foam around the pipe? Maybe i just need to create an equal amount of slack around the perimeter so that there is minimal movement everywhere instead of lots of movement at the bottom?
3) stance mat: saw some descriptions of plywood/rigid insulation/plywood/puzzle tile/turf. curious why so many different layers were incorporated. can i just use rigid insulation and turf? what is the best way to attach the layers together, glue? staples?
4) cross bar: i would like to extend the depth of my enclosure so that i can protect some windows i have on the side wall. however when i extend to 5ft the cross bar gets in the way of my driver swing. I figured i could just extend to 5ft on side walls and keep the cross bar at 3ft but unfortunately i cant find any T piece connectors at stores near me (montreal, canada). any other suggestions?
