  • Help with projector/image size and projector placement

    Hi guys

Im a bit stuck and really need advice.
room size is 3.80m wide. 3.00m high and 4.80 depth
My screen size is 3.65m wide, 2.90m high.
distance from screen to backwall is 4.70m
screen to ball distance will be around 9 feet.
    I've ordered a panasonic pt vz580 projector.
ive tried using a projector calculator but cant make sense of it and what i need to know is if i place the projector on the ceiling next to the backwall what image size will i get and also should i place the projector off centre to avoid shadows? Any help/tips would be appreciated. Thankss

So I use Projector Central for these kinds of calculations. It looks like to maximize your screen at 4:3 ratio you need to be back 5.9m but it looks like there is room for correction. With 4.7m available the largest picture looks like 3.55m wide x 2.67m high - at the limits of the projector correction capabilities. In default settings, the picture will be somewhere around 2.9m x 2.18m.

Of course this is all +/- a bit as the calculator is pretty close but not exact. Hope this helps.

That website, is awesome, thanks for the tip!

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a 10x10 screen, and the numbers are quite a bit different if I go with a 1:1 image v. a 4:3 image. I don't think I'd hate having some black areas on my screen too much but would be cooler to have it full screen. Anyone with thoughts on this issue?

There are several threads on managing screen image and optimizing. Search a bit for "Custom Image Sizing" - there are excellent tips on customizing the resolution to get a full screen.

So as far as projector distance, would you plan on doing full screen and then have the projector at that distance? Its like a 2ft difference on that calculator if I go 1:1 v. 4:3

Personally, I would try and fill my screen top to bottom, then use a custom resolution to "crop" the sides. But it really is a personal preference I think. Play around with it to find what you like the best I might suggest.
