Hi- 2 years of finishing my detached garage and I am finally to the golfing part. I have some tech questions for a 4K setup. Setup will include EyeXO, GsPro, Ryzen 5900x w/ 3080ti, tk700sti, 16x9 screen, 75 inch led tv, computer monitor.
1) is a 4K monitor necessary to have 4K on projection screen? I cannot mirror on projector if monitor is only 1080 correct? Would a smaller 4K led tv also work in place of a computer monitor?
2) what are best options for swing cameras other than optix? Is there a good program that can utilize iPhones for cameras?
3) what are the benefits of a touchscreen monitor/bezel over just using a mouse and keyboard?

Hi Pattycakes. I'm still new to the simulator world so likely someone else can chime in regarding 2 and 3. I don't have a touchscreen monitor but it could possibly be a good idea. You would have to mirror what is displaying on the touchscreen display so it likely wouldn't be 4K and thus your projected image wouldn't be 4K.

If you don't go that route and just use mouse/keyboard, then you can just extend the picture from your computer in which case you wouldn't need a 4K monitor unless you really wanted to have one but the 4K TV would work fine. When you launch GSPRO, it will ask which device to use to display and there you can enter the resolution you want to use. So for myself I don't have 4K so when I use the projector it's 1920x1080 on Display 2, but if I use my laptop screen, it's 2560x1440 on Display 1.

For yourself if you have a 4K TV as the main device and a 4K projector as the secondary device, when you launch GSPRO you can choose which display you would like to use and set the resolution to the 4K option. Hope that makes sense.

I'm fairly certain the monitor or screen with the computer does not impact the resolution output of the projector. Like a normal computer with a 2nd monitor. The 2nd monitors resolution is dependant on the hardware of the computer and the screen itself. Or in your case the quality of the projector.

These are good choices, but as you'll see in my suggestions below there is no need for the "computer monitor"

If you want to mirror from your TV to your Projector, then yes, both need to be 4K. But there is no reason to do that, in my opinion. What I have done is just stretch my desktop across all display devices (in my case, two 65" TVs in front of me and a 4K projector image that I hit into). That way the TVs can each be 1080 if you want (I have mine set to 4K because they support it) and the projector can be 4K.

Lots of people seem to have a dedicated computer monitor that is just used to get all the software started up -- but to me it's a waste of a TV. Just set your primary desktop to be one of the display devices in your room (even the projector) and just startup all your software from there.

I have Optix cameras and they work great. While expensive, the advantages are they're: very small, wired and mounted in place, high frame rate (just get flicker free spotlights per gungho golf's instructional article), and each camera can has its own exposure, focus, and optical zoom -- which gives you the flexibility to mount, for example, the down-the-line camera some distance away. You just need to spend $50 extra to buy a second zoom lens, since they give you one each of fixed and zoom lens with the two camera package.

I have used iPads and iPhones standalone for years and they do not support low light with high frame rate the way Optix cameras do, plus Optix is fully integrated into one of the multiple views that you get with Uneekor's View software.

3) what are the benefits of a touchscreen monitor/bezel over just using a mouse and keyboard?

When I first setup my system I got a wireless Logitech keyboard with integrated trackpad. This works decently because you can remain in hitting position and replay a swing or switch to a new hole on GsPro, etc. If you had a touchscreen you would have to walk over to your screens to do this and then you would be putting fingerprints all over it.

After a few days I realized what would work even better is to use AutoHotkey and Voice Attack to control the whole process with my voice. I have a USB microphone and just need to issue one of a dozen or so voice commands to replay my swing frame-by-frame, go to a new hole in GsPro, etc. It really is the way to go.
