I’m looking for a bit of help with projector recommendations please.

What type of projector will I need and does anyone have any budget friendly recommendations. The impact screen I have is 8.6ft high * 9.9ft wide. I probably have 15 ft in total length from back wall to screen.

I’ll be using a Garmin R10 linked to the projecter via an IPad running E6.

Thank you for posting the link. I’m struggling with this a little bit tbh.

I think I will need a short throw as I don’t want to mount it behind me (shadows etc.) and I’ve relatively small area.

I’ve seen some short throw used Epsoms on eBay for reasonable money but just a little unsure if they will work for me.

on the calculator when I input my measurements - it would only let me do either height or width not both. It’s defaulted to 16:9, but it’s editable?

I think my revised measurements will be :

7ft to screen (7ft throw)
9.9ft screen width
8.6ft high

BenQ HT2150ST it projects 120" at 6.7' and 150" at 7.5'. You are closer to a 4:3. Mount front of lens at 6.7' your image is 117" ish $800. Hope this helps.

Your comment about only setting one parameter is accurate, for the most part you'll need to decide if you're going to fit your width or your height,

You mentioned not wanting to throw a shadow on the screen, the projector nextlevelroman has mentioned, when set with a 4:3 resolution and the lens at 6'7" away from your screen, will project an image 4'11" tall and 6'7" wide.

If you move the projector back to 7'0", retain the 4:3 resolution, the image will be 5'3" tall and 6'11" wide.

If you move the projector back to 7'0", set the resolution to 16:9, the image will be 5'3" tall and 9'4"" wide.

If you want to fill the height, at a 16:9 resolution, the lens would at 7', the screen would need to be 15' wide. Or you'd need to run a custom resolution to chop off the sides of the image so they wouldn't be projected on the walls in addition to the screen.

Is it better to chop off the sides and make the height right or other way around? I moved projector back to fill the height then found a custom resolution to fit the sides. Is this not a good idea? Thanks not wanting to hijack but think the op might wanna know also.

Yes, always physically mount projector for desired screen height then use custom resolution to adjust width.

So another question for you guys. My room is 13’4” wide and 10’5” height. What size screen should i get? I have the benq 936st. Thank you

How far from the screen will the projector be mounted?

At 10'2", the projector will fill a 12' x 6'9" screen.

At 14', the projector would fill a 16' x 9'4" screen, so you'd need to run a custom resolution to chop off the sides.

You'll need about 4"-5" per side to attach the screen somehow, so that's why I set the dimensions a bit small than your room.

What if i got a screen that is 12’8” wide and then just went as tall as i can, say like 9’9”? I can mount the projector as far back as i want cause the room is 30’ long. Would this be better than trying to stick to say 4:3 aspect ratio and getting a shorter screen? Or stick with that ratio and just get a screen even though it wont go from floor to ceiling. Just wanted to get the biggest screen i can fit.
