  • Projector Selection - avoiding shadows and swing interference

I'm trying to spec out the right projector that will avoid shadows and not interfere with swing path for right-hand or left-hand golfers.
    • 9x12 Screen (4:3)
    • 10 ft ceiling
    • ProTee VX - center ceiling mount 5.5 ft from screen.
    • Hitting Position - center 9 ft from screen.
These are the two projectors I am considering.
    • BenQ TK700STi - center ceiling mount 15 ft from screen ($1500)
    • BenQ LK936ST - center ceiling mount 13 ft from screen ($4899)
Would shadows or swing interference be a problem with either projector?

I think it is too much throw distance for the BenQ TK700STi - you might consider the BenQ TK700 instead. I just got that one (not yet installed).

Curious if there's a want/need to have the projector parked that far back of your hitting area?

I've got a similar setup (9'8" ceiling, hitting from 8-9' from screen) and I've got my projector right over top of the hitting area. It hangs down about 18" from the ceiling. I was initially concerned about either the VX being blocked by the projector or the VX being in the way and causing shadows, but after a quick sketch and now live action, it's fine.

What I did to check before components were purchased/arrived was to tape the floor where the screen goes. Tape floor where you intend to place ball tee position. Mark ceiling where you think projector will hang. Then I ran a string from projector position to bottom of screen. Then I stood in the teeing location to see where my head was in relation to string. You can alternatively mock it up in 2D in an Excel spreadsheet using cells as a grid. This will tell you how far back the projector can be and not interfere as you so desire.

Highly recommend you mock it up for yourself.
