  • Build Question - Seeking Advice

I am hoping to build an in-home simulator based on the attached schematic and I was hoping to get some advice/suggestions.

    1. With an available impact screen space of 12' wide by 12' high, I am wondering what you would recommend for an actual impact screen size to fit into the space as well as what size I should build the frame for the screen to fit into. I am thinking about a 110" tall x 120" wide screen and putting it into a frame that is 116" tall x 126" wide. The screen would attach to the frame with bungees and cables to help reduce bounce back.

    2. How much room should I leave between the impact screen and the wall to ensure no balls hit the wall? I'm assuming 1' would be plenty of space. I plan on putting at least 1 extra thick moving pad behind the impact screen as well.

    3. Is the spacing of the Mevo+ launch monitor going to work in the space I have available? Additionally, could I mount the Mevo+ launch monitor to a sliding rail to accommodate for both left and right handed golfers?

Any advice, suggestions, critiques, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

    1. I finished building mine a couple of months back. I had almost the same size as you. I decided to go with a 4:3 aspect ratio. I built my frame out of wood and left about 3 inches on all sides and I maxed it to my width I had. I believe I ordered a 11.5 x 8.5 screen and I ordered it with a velcro strip all the way around it. I then ordered some black canvas from amazon and some super sticky velcro, cut the canvas and put on the velcro on the canvas. It was easy to then attached the canvas to the screen and run it to the frame to cover the spacing between the screen and frame. I also put 3/4 inch pad on the floor and cut out a space for my hitting mat. I used some of the 3/4 inch pad and glued / zip tied it to the wooden frame to stop bad bounce back. I tried some items behind the screen, but at the end, just hung the screen and removed some of the bungees at the bottom / lower sides.

    2. I left mine off the wall about 14 inches and that is plenty.

    3. My curtains come out a full 10 feet - really do not need more than 5 feet. I slightly angled my curtains as they come back and they are about 13 - 13.5 feet wide. The ball is about 9.5 feet from the screen and the MLM2 Pro is 7 feet to the ball. I do not move the unit and play both lefties and righties.

I have a very similar size space i allowed for 6" extra both ways on my frame as well and I left 9" between screen and back wall. Bounce back has been minimal and nothing hits the wall. I also used my turf as a ramp from front of the screen by connecting a 2x4 on edge behind the 2x4 on the floor and then rolling turf onto back of that board and stapling in there. Now the balls that fall off of the screen lightly roll back to ward hitting mat. Works very well
