  • How I built an incredible home golf simulator for under $4500 USD

I have been playing sim golf at my home club for the past 3 years and it starts to get expensive at $50/hour plus food and beverage (I was playing 4 times a week). They have two complete Foresight Sports simulator set ups each with the GC Quad launch monitor. I wanted to purchase my own home simulator set up and I spent endless hours researching launch monitors, enclosures, projectors etc until I finally accepted the fact that a home simulator was simply out of my financial reach. Fast forward to a few months ago and with a little grit and some extensive research, I was able to build a fantastic home simulator set up, entirely complete, for under $4500 USD. I never thought that this was possible! I don't have pictures at the moment but tomorrow I will be posting everything I purchased, the price, and a link to where I bought it in addition to pictures of how it turned out so that anyone who may be interested in a home simulator on a budget, will have some guidance. I will add that I am an avid golfer (I play 9 outdoor rounds a week plus indoor sim golf) and a 3 handicap and I am extremely happy with my set up. I am convinced that the launch monitor I purchased is just as accurate as the GC Quad that I have been using for the past 3 years for under $1000. More to come......

NOTE: The purchase links wouldn't post properly so links not included.

A day late but better late than never I suppose. Following is a detailed breakdown outlining how I built my home golf simulator for less than $4500 USD. Bear in mind that I am Canadian so all of my links and prices below are in CAD funds. However, all materials can be purchased in the USA for approx 30% less. It's important to note that I am the least handy person in all of North America possessing zero construction skills and had no interest in "building" a simulator of any kind. Everything I used to build my simulator was purchased and the entire set up took only a few hours to assemble.

    Enclosure (Walmart)
This was a big one. I spent endless hours researching enclosures only to find that $5000 appeared to be the average price. I paid $592.12 CAD or approx $414.48 USD.

    Curtains x3
I paired the above enclosure with curtains that I purchased from Amazon for $215.40 CAD or $150.78 USD

    Screen 10'x10' (Amazon)
This screen is amazing although it is a bit louder than I would like. Quality is incredible. Bounce back is great. $266.68 CAD or $186.67 USD

    Projector BenQ LM600ST
I needed a projector capable of a 1:1 aspect ratio as my enclosure was 10'x10' and this one fit the bill perfectly. $1354.87 CAD or $948.40 USA

    Projector Ceiling Mount (Amazon)
I saved some money here by buying a universal mount rather than the factory mount that they try and force you to use. Nothing exciting but works great. $28.24 CAD or $19.76 USD

    Hitting Mat- SigPro Softy 4x10
I was willing to go "budget" on some of the items but not the hitting mat. This was one of the more expensive components of the set up but worth every penny. This mat is an absolute joy to hit off of and I can't imagine a better quality mat for a simulator. $1761.68 CAD or $1233.17 USD
Turf Flooring 10x15 high end putting turf
I have a friend that owns a flooring company so I was able to get this turf at cost. It is some of the nicest turf I have seen and I'm not certain of the retail cost but I paid $600 CAD or $420 USD.

    HDMI Cable 15' (Amazon)
Nothing special here. $9.99 CAD or $6.99 USD

Lightening to HDMI adaptor for IPAD (Amazon)
Again, nothing special here. $23.98 CAD or $16.78 USD
    Launch Monitor- Rapsodo MLM 2Pro
There is likely great debate when it comes to launch monitors given that the higher end models can get to upwards of $15,000 however, I am so happy with this LM that I can't say it enough. It is highly accurate, easy to use, works flawlessly and was only $984.22 CAD or $688.95 USD. I spent weeks researching LM's before settling on the MLM2Pro and I couldn't be happier.

    Other Expenses
I already owned an IPAD pro so I saved $1000.00 there which I should mention.

    Summary
My ultimate goal is to purchase a PC and run GS Pro but that will come in time. For now I am using the free 1 year subscription to Rhapsodo golf and will move to GS Pro after the subscription expires. I should point out that all costs listed include taxes and freight. This is the net cost to me which comes in at $4085.98 USD. Pictures attached. Very interested in the community feedback. Thanks

HI TGrant14 His business is located in Ontario Canada so when you take shipping and duty into account, it just wouldn't be worth it. Make a post on here and I bet you will find a good USA based supplier. Good Luck. If I can help in another way, Im happy to.

A Great soltuion for the flooring would be to go with your eva tiles, topped off with lowes carpet padding with the moisture barrier facing upwards. lowes.com/pd/Leggett-Platt-11-11-mm-Rebond-Carpet-Padding/1000683295

You can top that off with camry carpet(This stuff is extremely popular to add the putting aspect, and the combo with the padding + Camry putting carpet eliminates bounce back and sound! Its also a fraction of the cost of any artificial turf solution + you get to putt and chip all year round on a 11.5 speed and true roll. We got the carpet from camrygolfgreens online store.

Heres a photo of our recent project(we saved thousands on the flooring) -
