  • New House with an upgraded Sim build

I just finished building a new home and used the opportunity to upgrade my sim set-up which was previously in my garage at my old house. My new room is 25ft long by 15.5 wide with a 12ft ceiling. I upgraded my launch monitor, software, PC, projector, and screen to the following:
    • Screen: Carl’s 10ft x 13ft Premium Screen ($749). I got it with grommets with black vinyl edge and flaps so I could wrap around bungees and EMT pipes for a clean look.
    • Projector: BenQ LK936ST ($4,899 from Carl’s). The projector is mounted 13’3” from the screen.
    • Launch Monitor: ProTee VX from Carl’s ($6,500)
    • Gaming PC: Dell Alienware Aurora R15 ($1,328 from Dell)
    • Software: GS PRO software from Carl’s ($250)
    • Turf, Stance Mat, and hitting strip: I re-used from my previous garage set-up. I am hitting from 11ft.
My previous set-up was a Mevo + with a Ben Q TH671ST projector and 8ft x10.5ft Preferred screen with a 5ft enclosure from Carl’s. I’ll be selling those items shortly on a separate post, either as a package or individually.

I re-used the EMT pipe from my old enclosure and added a few more pipes to create a free-standing frame for the new screen. I didn’t want to permanently mount anything in my new house so the frame is a EMT box 124” high and 163” wide and then 12” deep to bring it away from the wall (see pictures). I attached the screen using 6” ball bungees and hid them with the vinyl flaps that came with the screen. I did end up securing the top rear of the frame to the back wall with a few c-clamps and screws just for stability, but nothing too invasive to the new drywall. This made me feel confident it wouldn’t tip. I opted to go without any side or top protection since my screen is larger than my old one and I didn’t really experience hitting the sides or top at my previous set-up. I’m very happy with the Protee VX.

How are you liking the ProTee VX? In your pictures, it looks like it's in the danger zone but am guessing your projector is aways back so just looks that way.

Loving the Protee. It’s not in the way at all. The projector is about 6ft behind the Protee and sits a few inches below it - so no issues with the image being blocked.

    Fantastic setup! Very clean.
One small comment, I would re-size the resolution for the Projector to get it to fill the screen top to bottom, side to side. Easy to do by setting a custom resolution in your GPU settings.

Thanks, great suggestion. I will work on that.

Unfortunately, a "re-size" for vertical height requires moving the projector away from the screen. Remember leave the projector in native resolution and place the projector so that the top and bottom are filled. Then adjust the custom resolution to fit the width.

You cannot "expand" a resolution only trim.

My screen will be about 10 high and 11 feet wide, so very close to 1:1 ratio. I know you can use custom settings to do 1080 by 1080, would a 4k resolution be possible with this ratio? I spent about $1,500 on a laptop and projector (671st) and I'm trying to decide if I want to return both and spend more to go 4k. Thank you in

^^^ True unless there is room on the zoom. That projector has a variable throw ratio so it might be able to fill the screen without moving the projector.

How is the Dell Alienware Aurora R15 working for you on capri in 4K?

I'm also curious how you feel about the computer. I've been searching 4060, 4070, 4080, super, etc. today and having a hard time figuring out what to buy. Your computer seems very inexpensive considering all the other higher end components you mention. How happy are you with it?
