First sim, size and launchmonitor dilemma

Hi all experts!

This is my first attempt to build a home golf simulator. We have a smaller glassed in patio at the moment, but will soon move to a bigger house with enough room for a "real" golf simulator.
Supplied are two drawings of the patio. Units in the pictures are in cm (since I live in Sweden . Fast facts, the room is 22 by 13 feet with 7.4 up to a sloping ceiling.
With this setup I can only use irons, but this is OK for now. When we move I have the space for all my clubs.

First setup will include:

• Launch monitor - Mevo+ or Skytrak+
  • Included software and courses.
• Hitting net - max size of net 7x7 feet
• Hitting mat - big enough to stand on and hit from, but no more than that.

I have a 55" smart TV and iPad Pro, which I intend to use with the LM.
Next year I am looking at a complete studio enclosure with 4K projector and possible GSPro. Since LM is a big investment I intend to keep the one I buy for this years setup.

The purpose of this year is to practice golf and sometimes play courses - like 70/30. Mostly only my girlfriend and I, but sometimes with friends.

The question I have right now is which LM is best for now and for the coming "real" golf simulator?
I have room now for the Mevo+, but the extra space that is needed could cause some problem since there will be furniture in the outdoor patio.
Which LM is best for practicing golf (I am 7 hcp and my girlfriend has 36 (started this year))?
Next year and in the bigger room I guess there will be more focus on playing courses, does this change which LM is the best?

And, of course, at the writing moment, Garmin releases their Approach R50. More expensive than Mevo/Skytrak, but easier to connect to a Smart TV and setup/play. Probably enough to practice golf now. But is playing courses in the Home Tee Hero good enough?
If I later on go for the GSPro then I need a good PC, and then is the R50 overpriced?

Budget is/was $2000 for a LM, covering Mevo+/Skytrak+. The Garmin R50 is to expensive, unless I can convince myself it is worth it in the long run.
Mevo+ is my goto choice since it gets all the data I want, and it has no subscription fee. The only concern is the extra space it requires and the setup. The "golf sim" will be removed from time to time, like when we have guests. The setup needs to be simple, and looking at the R50 - it couldn't be more simple. But is it work double the cost?

Mevo plus an option. Consider the new Square golf monitor as well.

The more I listen and read through the more options I get and also more confused.
Rethinking space I guess a LM sitting behind me, like Mevo, is not an option. Most cieling based are too expensive. Right now I am thinking about these 4 options:

1. GarminR50. Probably to expensive
2. Uneekor Mini Lite. Looking good when it comes to data.
3. Skytrak+. Long delay after hitting ball, and uneekor sounds like a better solution.
4. Square Golf. Can this deliver as good data as the others?

But there is subscriptions to consider as well.
I have a gaming PC I could use for playing like GSPro. Perhaps I need a new graphics card. Do I need GSPro? Not sure.

Nothing perfect. Mini lite is food but only indoors and $199 usd yearly subscription. Garmin R50 is expensive and I would not recommend over eye Mini. Skytrak plus has delay, calculated club data and a yearly subscription as well. Square is new. I have one. It needs some spin axis tweaking which they are planning to release. So far it's a good unit but not as accurate as the MLM2 pro yet however that should improve. Square has better chipping and putting.

Are you planning on using GSPro with the Square or are you happy with included courses?

I have a Protee VX. It is the best unit I have ever tested. Overhead camera based and extremely accurate with club data and an amazing view of your club through impact. They just added club data. I use TGC2019 and GSPro with it. The Square is great for the price but doesn't compare.

I own a Mevo+ and a Square Golf device, and through owning both, I think there's a bit of a myth that perfect data = fun.


The mevo+ is an unbelievable launch monitor. The data you get, especially with the pro package and face impact detection, would require you to spend 2-3 times more to get with any other unit. However, I do not recommend the MEVO+ if your primary goal is sim golf. The mevo+ struggles hard with short chips and putting. There are things you can do with your setup to get it to get short game to sometimes work, but there is a ton of hit and hope. Sim golf with the mevo+ isn't fun.

The Square Golf device (and it's free GSPRO integration) is not as detailed with the data, but it is 10x more fun to play sim golf with than the MEVO+, even with lesser data. Square excels where mevo falls short... chipping and putting. The square golf is quite accurate for ball speed, HLA, VLA, with sometimes iffy 20-30% numbers. Those good ball numbers combined with it's reliability and speed in registering shots makes for a really fun SIM GOLF experience.

IMHO:
- Mevo+, if primary goal is to work on your game, it's gold.
- Square Golf, if your primary goal is sim golf and fun, it's excellent.
- need both? why not get both? square $800 & mevo+$2500=$3300 vs proteevx $6300. There's a lot you could do in your golf sim for that extra 3k
