  • Help with Projector Height

Hey guys, I'm building a simulator in a space with 9'6" ceiling height. As you can see in the sim planner pic, the ceiling height is really my only worrisome constraint.

I am going with a Foresight Falcon launch monitor, which I will recess mount in the ceiling so that I do not lose much mounting height there.

My biggest concern is with the projector. I am looking at going with the BenQ AH700ST. With the throw distance and my screen size, it looks like it would need to be mounted in a range from right over the golfer, to approximately 3' behind the golfer. My question is, for people with experience putting a simulator in a room with this ceiling height, would this be an issue with mounting the projector in this range? I feel like mounting it right over the golfer would likely not work with this height, but I'm curious if getting it to 3' behind the golfer would allow for enough room? If not, what options did you go with that made this setup work?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I own a sim business and can help. For cases where you're hitting offset and want the projector centered, I recommend placing a cardboard box on the ceiling to replicate the projector placement and take some swings with all clubs to see if you hit it or not.

I would recommend the AK700ST which is the 4k version of the AH700ST. The AK is shipping out later this month. I sell BenQ and Optoma projectors and typically no sales tax if you're in the US. You can email me if you wanna chat more about this.

Thank you. Do you have any experience on whether 9'6" ceiling height should allow for enough clearance on the projector?

Is the projector mounted directly over the target line? If so, you're not going to hit it. Swing path wouldn't ever be in that area.

That height can be fine but if you're hitting offset with the Falcon, it really comes down to the golfer's swing. So i always recommend the cardboard box thing to test it out and verify.

Thanks, guys. Yes the projector would be mounted on the target line, but as CO suggested, with the Falcon you do offset a certain amount if you want to obtain club data.

No offset needed, or for that matter, recommended. Mounted height will affect club data area size, the actual righty/lefty zones stay roughly the same size, but the space in between them varies in width depending on the height you have the Falcon mounted at. My Falcon reports being mounted 9'6" above the floor. The hitting areas are still roughly 11x17, but the area in between them is only 14" instead of 25" per their specs. The boxes outlined by the tees are the hitting areas. The tape measure is in the "dead" zone, between the club data areas.

Try this, helped me a lot. Mess around with spining the picture and you can see what the swing will come into contact with

That helps a ton! Reducing that dead zone is a huge benefit. Thanks for the pic!
