My simulator is being built in my lounge room. 3 of the 4 household occupants are stoked.
I need to be very considerate in my design to appease the other occupant
I am planning on using foam for ceiling protection. I will cover this with marine vinyl.
Which foam?
Weight is a priority, so I am looking at low density with good impact absorption.
I have narrowed it down to 3 foams with the same density of 29 kg/m3 = 1.8 lb/cft
29-400 acoustic foam at 50mm (2") thick
EPE Expanded Polyethylene 30-50mm thick (1-2")
IXPE Polyethylene 25mm thick (1")
The sales rep reckons the above order is worst to best for a golf simulator.
I am concerned about the Polyethylene being too thin, or too hard and getting bounce back. However, the foam is on the ceiling so any bounce will be towards the screen or floor.
Bonus question:
I am running a flexible curtain track along the ceiling, around the projector screen which will be on a roller mounted on the ceiling. The curtain track will hold up a side/back net.
I had considered using velcro to attach the net to the edge of the screen but I am instead leaning towards having the net all the way around.
Any feedback on this design?
Thanks in advance.
