  • Side panels for Sim

I am in the process of building my golf sim and I am looking for recommendations on the width for side panels.

I see that some use curtains, and some use impact panels. I do not see any major benefit with curtains over panels.

My choice would be panels for a cleaner look, but my question is, how far out from the impact screen should these go?

    I have seen 2ft, 4ft, 6ft, and 8ft.

My screen is 15'10 x 10.5', so it is a decent size. I feel that 8 ft side panels would be overkill, and was leaning towards 6ft.

I am a decent golfer, as is my son. It is our friends who will be using the sim that will be my concern for mis-hits. (But hey, we all can have them)

I thank you for your suggestions.

I think you are on the right track. I currently have 4' and have had a rare mishit go astray. I'm considering adding a couple more feet

Part of the decision depends on your distance of your hitting area from the screen. My screen is 16’ wide and the center of my hitting strip is 9’6” from the screen. My panels are 4’ wide. I have had no issues with people hitting outside the protected areas (the angle of a mishit would need to be really extreme given the width and distance from the screen)

Do you find your 16’ wide screen feels too large? That is one of my concerns. My room is 16x30, so my the screen I am considering to order is 15’10” by 10’6”. This would entirely cover one end of my room.
The room has no windows, so I don’t want the screen to overpower the room.
I could easily go with a slightly smaller screen, but then I would lose the “ built in” look.

You like to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

The built in look takes it to another level. 16 feet does not feel too big. I was told that 15 feet was enough, but even at 16 feet, there was still some initial indoor swing syndrome. Last weekend we had a party and I was able to see someone else swing a driver in my new space. He is 6’3”. It was a relief to see him swing away without coming near the walls or ceiling. If you have 16’ use it.
