Hello all! I finally decided to start building my sim. I am completely new to this (all I currently have is a net I beat balls into all day). Finally wanted some feedback on what the ball is actually doing.
I was trolling this site about a year ago but got overwhelmed with everything and stopped thinking about it, but that tiny nagging voice in the back of my head wouldn't shut up, so I am back and this time I am going to follow through. I am going to convert a finished room in my basement into a sim. I have already taken up the laminate flooring and will be putting down a putting turf (likely Pro Putts TourPutt AT bulk turf). I have already had a couple of emails back and forth with Corey at Par2Pro. I will be using the tried and true method of an HQ2 impact screen with net behind it anchored via bungies to angle iron. I plan on getting a skytrak and TGC software. Will need to get a computer as well. I am having a little trouble deciding on the size of the impact screen and what format I want to go with for the projected image. I want to do a ceiling mount projector, preferably just behind me, say 10-11ft away from the screen although directly over me would not bother me either.
The room is 14'9" wide and the ceililng is 9'8" high. I will be hitting from 9 feet back. The room is not the longest and a support post and beam at 13.5' limits my projector options to a short throw.
As I see it, I basically have two options: I can go with a 16:10 ratio screen 13'8" wide x 8'7" high with a 1280x800 res ST projector (The BenQMW632ST would work fine) or
go with a 16:9 ratio screen and lose a foot in height on the screen or keep the screen the same size and live with a white stripe at the top. (BenQHT1085ST or AcerH7550ST will do the job). This will only be used for sim.
Having read countless posts here, I get the sense that most would say get as large of a screen as will fit in the space. My question to all of you: is there going to be a big difference between the 1280x800 res for the 16:10 format vs the 1080 res for a 16:9 format as far as how TGC will look? At 9 feet from the screen, am I going to notice an appreciable difference in pixelation with that lower res? I'm hoping some of you have a 16:10 setup with a 1280x800 projector and that it looks fine because I would like to maximize the screen AND image size if possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice and thoughts. I plan on posting pics throughout the process as previous posts have definitely helped me tremendously!
