Long time lurker first time poster. First off I'm extremely grateful for all of the information I've obtained from reading your threads. The amount of knowledge here is incredible. Finally decided to take the plunge and purchased a skytrak during the recent masters sale. I've also ordered a 5x5 cce mat. Now is the time to decide on the impact screen and projector. I have a few questions with my build. My small garage is limited in space, but all i have to work with at the moment. The dimensions are 11'6" wide and 21' deep. Ceiling is 9'. Less than ideal but believe i can clear a driver, cant confirm until i receive the mat. Im thinking about the supertex screen but uncertain which size to go with. Would you recommend 120x96 hitting offset, or 108x96 cheated to one side hitting to the center of the screen? I plan on framing the enclosure using padded conduit and utilizing 9' blackout curtains. Would you go with emt, rigid, or something entirely different? Whats a good diy material for ceiling protection with this type of frame? I will surely have questions about the projector but want to tackle the screen first. If these questions are best suited for a different thread please let me know. I can't wait to get this thing going!

Welcome! I made this same post about 2 months ago. My build is complete and I owe it to everyone to post my build and specs, I'm sure I'll get around to it but its been too much fun just playing on the SIM non stop!
First off, you will be fine with a 9' ceiling as long as you aren't over 6'3 or so. I'm about 6'2 and I have clearance without any worry, but anything taller and it might get in your head a little bit. My brother-in-law crafted a frame for me out of angle iron. It's about 8'8 tall and 9' across. My throw is 8'x6'. I used the supertex screen in 108x96, but if you email them they can make it in any dimension you want pretty much.
The angle iron frame we built was welded all together and bolted to some shelving I have on the right side and then crafted to bolt to my garage door slider. Looking back on it, EMT is probably the easiest way to go.
If you are using the supertex and have done as much research as I did, you probably want a net behind it. I used one from west coast netting. As for centering the screen, mine is perfectly center and I offset my mat so you are lined up with the center of the screen from the impact spot on the mat. This works for me because I don't have any friends that hit lefty. -
Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to look into the west coast netting. Your setup looks great, I am looking at something very similar. How do you like the projector so far. I'm torn between the optoma 1080 and benq 1085st. I can save quite a bit going with the optoma. Not sure if its worth going all out on the benq when i will be in 4:3 anyway.Comment
