  • Hello from Uddingston, Scotland

    Hi, everyone, I'm Billy.

Just thought I'd register after looking through the site a fair few times when I've been umming and ahhhing over whether I should go for a simulator build or not. I'll post in the relevant bit later on :-)

I live in Uddingston, Scotland and am quite a keen but hot and cold golfer, playing off 16 (although to be honest I should be off 10-11) I just haven't put any cards in lately.

Looking forward to some advice now I've decided to actually get off my a*se and go for it.

Decide what you want, club or ball data or both, what your budget is, do you want to practice only or also play. There are lots of options so use this site to investigate all of them. They all have pros and cons.

I have had a P3 Proswing for about 5 years. The results you get are based (meaning distance and direction) on swing path, club face open/closed, club speed and the club you have told the unit you are hitting. There is no ball-related data, unless you add the launch monitor to it. So if you take the same swing with a new 5-iron that is specially made for you, and another 5-iron that is 40 years old, you should get the same result from the software, assuming you do not have the launch monitor add-on. With the launch monitor, the ball data is supposed to override the club data for distance and direction, but only if the original (I think the website calls it the sensor unit) unit registers it as a "good" swing.

I have been pretty happy with it, but some friends who have a steeper swing than mine tend to not trigger the sensor unit occasionally, so the machine either does not react or gives some sort of "missed ball" message. When I play it is generally not an issue though, as I tend to sweep the ball rather than divot.

One last occasional issue is that sometimes I hit the ball pretty sweet, and the machine tells me I missed. It can also tell me I hit the ball well, when in fact it was a shank. But I tend to discard both of these issues since they are not predominant, and when they happen, I know enough to disregard the feedback I get from the unit.

      Hope that helps.

        Hello from miserable Aberdeen!!
I’ve had a simulator in my garage for nearly 4 years now, and am currently in the middle of building my third version.
Here’s a link to my second build which will maybe give you some inspiration?! https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...e-simulator-uk
I’ll be documenting my V3 one once it’s finished... but I’ll be lucky if it’s finished this year!
