  • New guys needing advice on Long Island

Hey all, doing a home sim for me and my boys. Going to break my question one by one. Capturing the data is most important so first question.
Skytrak vs GC2.... obviously I know the GC2 is better. But How much better? Is it worth the $2k+ More...? Is SkyTrak that much inferior?

I want to do it right, but I have limited funds at first.. so is it better to spend the money to get the GC2 and just hit to a net and use a 50 inch TV for a monitor... (buying a good gaming computer either way) for now... the add a screen and projector

OR.... get a SkyTrak and have money for screen and projector now? Will I want to change to a GC2 eventually?

have guys done a comparison and seen a big difference? I haven’t used a SkyTrak but I’ve used a GC2 and it is accurate.

what do we think, I appreciate the advice..

I'm sure you will get varying opinions. I think the screen/projector will give you the full experience of a sim. Plenty people have started with Skytrak then upgraded to GC2 later, as have I. The reason I went with Skytrak first was because I really wasn't sure if sim golf would be a novelty that would wear off or how much I would use it. Once I saw how often I used it. I was comfortable forking out the dough for a GC2. Skytrak is a very solid unit for the price point and the app is amazing and constantly being updated.

tighter tolerances on readings, better reading on HLA, larger FOV, no short game limitations in TGC, improved shot to show time, no high ball speed issues. Whether or not it's worth the the 2k+ for a used GC2 is up to you. I used skytrak for years and if it's all I could ever use, i would still be very happy. There is a big impact though on using a projector and screen vs hitting into a net with monitor/tv off to the side. I did that as well for a time.

I would echo wbond comments. I am still with a Skytrak and I am very happy. GC2 is better but not worth the switch for me yet...

GC2 vs ST... This is so subjective. You’ll find a bunch of guys that tell you each is the better option. I have no regrets on GC2. Resale opportunities are great if you find you don’t use it. That’s probably only slightly more true of GC2 than ST. If you are really wavering on the extra cash, Kal’s comment is spot on. If you eventually find you really want the better accuracy you can sell ST and buy the GC2. Plenty of guys are perfectly happy with ST. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks guys, still cant decide. As far as the simulator software "The golf club' seems to be most people choice, is a correct?
When I do go buy the launch monitor where is the best place to purchase? Like a refurbished GC2.

I did not play the other software packages but I think TGC 2019 is by far the way to go. The only feature that is does not seem to have is Best Ball/Scramble play. But that is offset by the tour/tournaments, the ability to build your own courses and play those developed by others. Haven't regretted TGC once!

Some people say that Skytrak is better or fine for the money?

Of course... What they are really saying is that the extra money isn’t worth the added benefits of the GC2. Check out rjd’s post above.

I come from the school of spend the money once, regret it once, don’t spend it and regret it every day. However, it’s not like I ate kraft dinner for 3 years to pay for it so......

Reminds me of when I went to the World Series and the girls at the bar were like “we used out rent money to come here”. Lol

If it makes your choice any easier. You can always start with Skytrak. When you feel your ready or have need for GC2, sell your Skytrak here to someone else just starting out. This forum is growing by leaps and bounds so there is no shortage of buyers.

I never once considered GC2 during my months of research bc I knew if I didn’t go the route of full immersion and was only hitting into a net and looking at a tv off to the side, I wouldn’t enjoy it as much. I put more into my setup than I did the skytrak.

Eventually I will go with a GC2 or Quad if it gets TGC access. At the end of the day, ST is good enough for the price. It does everything I need/want it to without breaking the bank.

There is something to be said about feeling like I’m golfing. For what it’s worth, that’s why I bought the thing... not to get better per say, but to actually feel like I was golfing when I couldn’t. Having a baby changes my options. I’m more than satisfied for the next couple years until I feel like I can make the jump to GC2.

I am seriously caught up on the same thing. I just moved to LI (oceanside) and am almost completed all my purchases. Once I sell my apartment I will have to see how much $ I have left but as of right now I am going the skytrak route. Hoping that if I set it up correctly it will work perfectly unlike some posts I have read. If you dont mind me asking what part of LI? I am looking to find some people to play golf / sim golf with.

I'm probably going with the Skytrak also, hard to justify double the cost. Many people seem to be happy with it. I'm out east near patchogue.
