  • Hello from Southern California - Starting my build today!

    Hello everyone,

My name is James aka Everground and I'm 29 (about to turn 30 in a few weeks) and live in Southern California with my GF and 2 dogs.

I've been playing golf off an on since age 8 and played on the high school team. Ever since I hit a ball into a simulator I always wanted one but never had the resources to make it happen. Now that I bought my own house and have a garage the FIRST thing I wanted to do was build a simulator.

All my stuff came in the mail yesterday so today I'll start my basic build and add to it in the future.

Will post some pics with my progress.

Look forward to meeting and playing with you all.

Thanks! Yesterday I was able to get the frame/screen up. Today/tomorrow going to try and tackle the projector and tightening the screen a little but not too much.

I got a Skytrak, Carl's Place DIY Kit (13 ft x 7.7 ft), BenQ Short Throw Projector, All Turf Matt.

I wonder if I would have a sim in southern Cali.

Definitely not as needed as other states but I hate 4 hour rounds, I hate buying buckets of balls, and can't afford 99% of the private clubs.

haha right? I feel so spoiled now already playing rounds in 45min-hour. I'm addicted! IRL golf will feel even slower next time. I miss the feeling of taking a perfect divot out of the ground, thats about it lol

If you've ever played there, you may consider it. I've played about 5 rounds out there and never finished in less than 5 hrs. One was over 6 hrs. None of them were on the weekend.

True but I’d be at a private club. Public golf is often bad that way.

Our public courses are hit or miss here in CT. I can generally get out of 18 in 4hrs 15 minutes... Some days are around the 5 hour mark though, but that just has to do with the 4 some i'm in.The rangers do a good job moving people along in most places, but the big issues (at least from a mid-high handicapper perspective) is that the course rough's are not very well maintained... I've lost balls literally right off the fairways in thick fescue. It really slows pace of play down when you are continually searching for balls that are not OB. And I don't mean, hey I hit it in the woods and I'm going to go find my ball/hit it from there... I mean really in play.

The private courses I've played are just so much better maintained. At that point though, I'm always getting pushed or skipped because the members are just so good and know the greens very well. Its tough trying to read greens here in New England, if you've never played the course before.
Its tough being a crappy golfer who is trying to improve. Thankfully sim golf has been helpful to my on course game. I know when a ball is struck well and where it's going to end up. When not, I know if its OB or not. (usually)

All good points. I'd love to be part of private club some day while still having my at home setup. That is the long term dream! hah
