  • New UK possible build

    Hi all,

Firstly, thanks to everyone for the info its a huge treasure trove of great information.

I am in the early stages of looking at a possible build, have the green light from the boss to look into converting the garage, the problem is, I can't change too much about the dimensions of the building.

Quick measurements not exact but close enough, put me at L- 16'4, W - 9'2 H - 8'6. Now the length and width cant change but the hight I think I may be able to push the roof up perhaps a foot or so.

Everything I"ve read suggests length should.be fine for a Skytrac build, but width and hight may be a problem, if I can push the roof up to say 9' 6, what are your thoughts on those dimensions?

I know i'll have to be way off to the right (not.planning any lefties playing), but is it workable?
Like so many here, I'm at the stage of not wanting to invest too much time in getting builders out to look at the roof and thinking about screen sizes / projectors if the space I've got won't work.

I appriciate any thoughts or comments.

Length is fine. Width is tight but doable. You'll just be hitting from way over next to the wall. Height is an issue. Have you taken any practice swings in there? The first thing I would do is take some super slow motion swings with a driver to see how much room you have. If driver will be hitting the ceiling, club down until you find your limit before you start thinking about chopping up the ceiling. Worst case scenario -- you have a sim where the longest club you can hit is a 5 iron and you just play the forward tees and par 3 courses, which is better than having no sim at all.

Hi - check out my channel it may help. Im in the UK and have 9.8ft width in a single garage setup. Im hit offset to the right but struggle with driver due to width more than height. But still well worth it imo

        Thanks for the replies.

Alex, having watched a few of your videos, I had a couple of questions and an idea.

How far away from the right wall are you? Looks like there is maybe a foot or 2 on the driver video.

        3w looks to swing fine!

Have you throught about picking up a cheap old driver from ebay and seeing what its like to let rip? At least that way if you hit the wall no great damage done, also i'd be buying padding for the walls.in front of you especially the right side one that sticks out from the main.wall

          No probs thanks!

Yep about 2 foot from the wall, thats a great idea regards hitting an old driver. I do have an old driver in the loft i will get out and give a smash. I deffo think once you break the 'mind' barrier and swing freely it can work.

i think padding would also help, i was planning that just havent got around to doing it and spending more money on the sim

Keep us updated on your progress its great to see

im also looking into perhaps extending the gargage as i do have a bit of land to the side but have no idea on costs for this or if its possible. complete rebuild would be a bit to much i think

Just cleared out as much as I could to try this, I can do a full back swing without hitting anything with an old driver, even at full speed, without moving a fridge freezer and removing the internal working of the garage door i cant fully recreate the through swing at speed but im getting close to the back wall/ roof with a slow follow through (though not on the path id use), it certainly wont be far away, i'd certainly be able to swing 3w without issue.

I'm thinking of having having a 6' across screen would that work ratio wise? It would alow me to use the front left of the garage for bikes.

6 feet is quite small. I would use the entire 9 feet if I were you. Can you hang the bikes on the wall or something? In a 4:3 ratio, a screen that is 6 feet wide would give you an image height of 4.5 feet. If that's all the space you can muster up, it's better than nothing. But I would try to figure out how to use the full 9 feet of width.

100% agree i would go with the full width distance - can always cover part of the top of the screen if image doesnt cover it all. Bigger the better and gives more confidence when hitting balls and looks much better too!

                    Next question.... screen size?

                    My room is 9ft2w x 8ft6h.

I assume.i'll need a screen that is slightly thinner and slightly longer than those measurements?

                    golfbays do one that is 2.7m (8ft10) x 3m (9ft 10).
GolfBays offers premium home & indoor golf simulators, creating realistic golf experiences indoors. Find your perfect golf simulator & enclosures.

Would that sort of size work or not?

Where else can i look to get a screen in the UK?
