  • Hello from Nebraska!

If I said golf can consume me I'd be understating how addicting it can be. I was an extremely avid golfer 25 years ago while in college. Played nearly every day during spring, summer, and fall, and even worked in the business for a year. Then life happened.....wife and kids....and by the time I was 30 I didn't make the time to go play. There were a few years I never picked up a club. Part of the problem was I was bored with my local 9 hole course. I could play a par round without playing good and it didn't challenge me. Fast forward to the winter/spring of 2020 and I purchased a hitting mat and net to use in my shop during the winter. Once I hit a few balls I started to get the itch. I played more that summer but not a lot. Then, while playing in a local benefit scramble at my local course a friend asked if I was interested in joining a nearby club. It's 10x the course and after getting the OK from my wife we joined. I played nearly every chance I had for a month.....2-3 times a week.....and got my handicap back below 10. Then harvest came (I'm a farmer) and I had to shut it down. So now I'm hooked. I've bought a new driver, putter, wedges, 3 wood, and 2 hybrid already and just ordered a Mevo+. I'm making plans to renovate a room in my shop and turn it into a simulator!

Welcome Golfnut_1978 - you're in good company! Love the passion... I followed a similar path, was a huge player and tournament competitor in high school, back when persimmon woods were all the rage. Once i got into college though, and started having back problems I dropped out for a long time. Finally started up again about 10 years ago now and had this dream to complete my Golf Sim - been following the LMs and this forum since 2014. I had no money then, but things have changed in that regard and the increased size of my family allowed me to find a reason for us to move to a bigger house. One with a detached 12'x16' shed that I'm finishing off, adding a window, and laying a raised floor to finally start playing sim golf. One last thing - I have 2 season passes this year at local courses and when I called them today, one was closed on the answering machine, the other said they were closing today at 3:30pm! So, I'm so thankful I've found my renewed interest to finally finish my Sim Shed and get moving.... I'll start a 'new bulid' post later tonight.

Look forward to watching your future sim build! It's a great environment!

I've got some questions about my build in one of the other forums but the plan is for a room 30x14x11 room where I currently have a messy break room that doesn't get used. I'll still have 7' above that for a storage loft that I plan to extend the full length of the building, which is 80'. Hopefully I can get some unused stuff off the floor of the main shop and onto the loft.

Golfnut_1978 Welcome! You'll find your sim gives you something to hack at instead of watching our Huskers self destruct! (IMO our record this year doesn't truly reflect how hard we've fought, but a W is a W and a L is an L. I hope Trev gives Scott more time. GBR.)

If you go with TGC2019, I created Westwood (Par 3 on West Center I grew up playing on), and I'll hopefully get into and finish off Fox Run (Council Bluffs) and Hillcrest (Lincoln) this winter.

        Enjoy your build!
