  • Sim HDCP vs Real HDCP

From what I've read, it seems that the majority of people have a much better sim HDCP vs their real life HDCP. Does anyone else have a significantly higher (more than 50%) sim HDCP vs their RL HDCP?

My current HDCP is 5.2 and my avg score over the last 20 rounds is 78.6. I have one more round to go for TGC q-school and i think I will easily be north of double digits. This isn't exclusive to TGC, I had the same thing with optishot and P3, although not nearly as high, maybe just a few strokes more than my normal HDCP.

For some reason, I just play better outdoors than in, even with a perfect lie every time.

My guess is the better the player the lower the discrepancy. I'm a 16 handicap in real life but can often put up mid 70s in the game. I think the more wild you are the more strokes you lose to lost balls. You also struggle more from poor lies and hitting out of the sand when your mechanics aren't as sound. All of that is obviously negated on a sim. Then there are the 6 foot gimmes in TGC. I miss at least 3 or 4 short putts (3-6 feet) per round.

When I'm playing bad on the simulator I still can shoot an 88-90. When that occurs in real life I will put up 95-100. I'm hoping the practice on the simulator will translate to better rounds on the course this summer. I'm curious though to see just how hard it becomes to hit out of real rough.

The one place I expect to do better outdoors is on the tee. Due to my room I need to choke up considerably on my driver. I'm sure that costs me 5-15 yards on most of my drives.

Much higher on the sim, about 10 vs 2 in RL

I am with you, am still trying to figure out the nuances of sim golf......it does take much more imagination I believe......

These comments are interesting. I asked this question a few months ago and the general comments were that sim play is easier than real life. Guess it is very player dependent.

I've been playing for a few weeks now and definitely am finding myself getting better. I think my swing is more consistent and I'm keeping most of my shots

Good to see that I'm not the only one struggling. I definitely believe it helps though out on the course for driving, iron play and even the half wedge shots.

Glad to hear. I thought I was getting substantially worse after that first round @ Honda classic.

I've been thinking about this for a while, my sim scores as tracked for the last 2 years (over about 50 rounds) are about 3 strokes lower than IRL, playing comparable yardages. My TGC handicap is about 8 or 9 higher than my real index though, so, not really sure what's up with that, other than maybe TGC rates courses at around 62 because of console play.

                  2015 in RL - Scoring average - 75.5, GIR - 11.5. Putts - 32.2
                  TGC - Scoring avergae - 72.4, GIR - 12.8, Putts - 31.5

I find my good rounds on the sim are similar to IRL, but the bad rounds don't seem to be as bad, other than at Honda last week.. lol..

So far my TGC handicap is 8 strokes higher than IRL through about 12 rounds.

For those that have responded, what do you think is causing the rise in the sim HDCP? For my, the biggest reason is that I'm not able to accurately interpret the greens yet. Also, taking bad lines for shots and for some reason, I seem to be overcooking the draw on TGC.

Honestly I think it's as simple as how HB Studios rates the courses, as I said I think they're rating a course at 62 (based on 300 scores by mostly console players) that IRL or sim play should be more like a 70 rating.

Playing sim golf is just different.........some people adapt some have a more difficult time..sim.requires more imagination........seeing a 75 yard shot outside vs inside. ...more like if every shot you hit outside was a blind shot ...only way I can describe it......sim greens seem to have way more break....rare to have a straight putt

So far I am finding sim golf much easier. I am still in the process of establishing my handicap and am playing the first handicap course. I am right now 2 over for the first 11 holes, which is pretty good for me (my actual hcp is 9.8). But still long ways to go and there are always a couple of blow up holes in the round.

I feel like the 2 yard gimmies have really freed me up. I can just get within that circle and take 1 putt from there - that just relaxes me a lot. I now know what I need to really work on IRL - get to where I can get really good within 2 yards putting and then I can (maybe) have the same feeling on the golf course.

I agree with the 2 yrd gimmes really helps take the pressure of those little putts you sweat over in real life, I'm a 8 HCP IRL and I'm an 8 after Q school. Feel like I can go lower on the sim than I could in real life.
