  • Hello from the Bay Area, CA

    Hi All,

I'm getting ready to build something and have a few questions before I start breaking things...like my bank account.

I'll just rattle off questions and see where things go. Thanks for all the great info I have already read on this site, as well as any additional this may produce....

    - Does anyone have a guess as to when a new SkyTrak model may be coming out? Impossible to answer of course, but have there been any rumors? Based on the original SkyCaddie and subsequent products that followed, I have to think they are working on something.

    - Is there a projector recommendation for outdoors use? I have a cage already and would likely start out just using a laptop & monitor, but would eventually like to switch over to a projector. Pic of cage attached

hmmmm, I had a bunch more questions that I can't remember right now, but I will eventually I'm sure....

    1. No clue. And I would be very surprised if they put out a version 2 within the next 2 years. Maybe they add integration with SkyPro, or something else. This is just my guess. Also Rapsodo is the hardware maker of the SkyTrak.

    2. If you can black out the sides and top of your cage you will probably be able to use any good short throw projector. Otherwise using a PJ would be tough in normal sunny conditions, but not impossible, probably more impractical though.

I can darken it inside considerably, but not completely. Need to order the parts to convert the top to a low peak and then get a marine tarp to go over the whole thing. I think I'll need to support it a little better to take the weight, but it's pretty easy to add those.

Thanks, I didn't realize they oem the box. Makes sense, but also a little troubling since support seems to be one of the negatives. I even had to dig on their website just to find warranty information.

Thanks everyone. I just had it installed a couple months ago and I love it.

Actually, after reading the good words here on the CCE, I received mine today from Costco. Awesome deal @ $50 cheaper + no shipping.

                  Just got done installing it....

Yeah, that thing looks awesome. What type of framing and sheathing is that? Doesn't look like stuff I can get at lowes. How about the roof, is it rainproof?

I fab the frame out of aluminum square tubing, the sides and roof are roof sheeting I bought from home depot. I didn't think it was going to be rain proof but it is I had a couple small leaks but used some roofing sealer. I did have some issues with water come through the ground. I ended up putting French drains around the sides and the front and put a sump pump in now it's usable all winter. I also have two portable AC units but it's really hot in Nor Cal so I can play in the mornings but it gets way to hot in there the rest of the day
