I see many here complaining that they have developed golfers elbow. I play every day so I too have been afflicted by this and many other muscle or tendon aches. My daughter is a massage therapist, and any time I get the aches I just have her give me a massage. The most effective part is call "cross fiber friction". This is where you press very hard on the connective tissue at the joint going across the direction the muscle travels. If you search you tube for whatever ailment you have you will find many videos on how to self massage golfers elbow. If you do it the way they describe you will find that in a very short time you will be back to swinging again. This works for so many of my aches. I do it all the time.

Hey thanks for this 717golfer. I've developed a case of this over the last couple of weeks. It really came to a head on Sunday evening for me. Put me on the sidelines for Monday. I gave it a shot on Tuesday and the first easy swing damn near brought a tear to my eye. I was able to work through it though and have to say it was better having loosened up. It's not completely gone yet, but manageable.
Question for anyone interested. I play righty and am having issues with my left arm. I figured most would get it with their trail arm? No?

I battled this all last year and beat it with the help of physical therapy. The most common problems is epicondylitis, which also radiates pain into the forearm.

aka 'tennis elbow', in your lead arm, which is what I had. Golfers elbow is in your trail arm.

"The difference between the two conditions lies in where the elbow is inflamed. Both Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow are forms of epicondylitis, an inflammation of tendons that attach to the elbow. Tennis Elbow affects the lateral, or outside, epicondyle and Golfer's Elbow affects the medial, or inside, epicondyle"

Mine is trail elbow. I wore a brace and it improved the symptoms right away and I was able to play through it with little issue. After a few weeks I didnt need the brace anymore. I guess it worked itself out. It was very bad at first too, thought I was done for a while.

All that therapy stuff is wonderful but for most everyone converting to graphite iron shafts eliminates the problem. With modern shafts you can get pretty much the same playing ccharacteristics as any steel iron shaft. They do cost a bit more but the savings in medical bills is one of the best ROI's ever.

Yeah I am dealing with a slight case of this aswell. Definitely the trail arm. I thought my fibrebuilt mat was supposed to protect from this occurring but I guess over doing it still causesays it to inflame.
I will try the cross friction massage and see if it helps.
How many days did it usually take for you to notice improvement.

Windex.......
Couldn't resist myself. If you don't know where that comes from, you should.
I second the Graphite shaft recommendation. Especially when you take a middle aged man who is not setup for sim play and he starts hitting a thousand balls a week . The graphites have made my life much better, instantly, well within a week.

Another vote for graphite. I suffered for a couple years... both elbow and shoulder. Got shots that gave me temporary relief only to have the pain come back quickly. A few months after I switched from my 6.5 project x to UST recoil graphite shafts pain went away. I've been pain free the last couple years. Building my first sim now. Hopefully, hitting off a CCE mat with the recoils will not mess my elbow up again.

I've already said this on a couple of occasions but using the Theraband Flexbar and getting rid of any mats that grab the club too much such as the CCE will help it heal. I like the Divot Action mat. Also, starting off playing a few holes and gradually building from there will help. If it starts to hurt then it's time to stop the session.

I haven't had any re-occurrence with a CCE mat and graphite iron shafts in about 5 years or so.. I can make the pain start to reappear if I hit about 25 shots with an old 95 gram steel shafted iron set i still have. I don't normally try this but awhile ago my clubs were in my wife's car and it was in the shop for maintenance. Moral of the story, take your own car to the course.Originally posted by Specimen View PostAnother vote for graphite. I suffered for a couple years... both elbow and shoulder.
