  • Hand Soreness/Pain

I've had my sim about 3 months, and have developed a very sore hand. I'm right handed, and it is my left hand almost between my ring finger and pinky finger.. i can feel it on the top of my backswing and transition, in addition to the very end of my swing - basically whenever the club is fighting against those last two fingers

I thought I was pacing myself by only playing 3 times a week to prevent this kind of thing, but wondering if anyone else has this experience? Thoughts for remedy?

What mat are you using? This is very common and is usually mat dependent.

Another thing could be the grip. I believe this is more dependent on age though as I have noticed a lot of Sr golfers I play with use the Winn dri tac grip I believe it is called as they feel it helps with arthritis pain in their hands.

I have the Fiberbuilt 4x7 mat and it sits on my concrete garage floor.

I'm only 32, but maybe my hands/wrists think they're senior hah

You pass the age test, but at this point your hands like feel like a senior!

I think you are going to need to find a way to take it easy a little and let you mr hands heel.

Is hitting surface directly on concrete/cement floor?

It is - but it's the fiberbuilt 4x7 mat, so wouldn't think that would make much difference.. do you?

Stre I think it would make a big difference. The problem with the fb mat is that it has that hard rubber base and so if you hit down on it pretty hard you could start aggravating your hand a bit. Fb mat is good, but it is not perfect, especially if you hit hard down into that base. I have a fb mat and this is what I have found and there I someone here that posted a detailed description of his thoughts on the fb mat (as well as some others).

Appreciate the insights... I got this mat to hopefully prevent elbow issues, but looks like it might have hurt something else... What is your preference for a mat?

I never had these issues with the Truestrike, but I am actually thinking of trying the divot action next. It is pretty well priced. The other option that I think. Might be worth considering is the soft strike mat. However, my next try will be with divot action. Please don’t get me wrong as I do like the fb mat and think that it does help with preventing injury, I do think that when hit hit steepninto the base those fibres do nothing to protect your hands, wrists and elbows.

Does it feel like you are bottoming out the club on the FB mat? The fibers are just over an inch tall so if you are striking the rubber base, then divot action isn't going to help either as you will be bottoming that out also. You could DIY a divot action and give it a greater clearance for flex though. If it doesn't feel like you're hitting the base of the FB, then maybe just a grip change would help some. I would suggest the Winn Excel, it was the original and i believe it may be their softest offering.

I'm going through some hand paint myself right now, not really sure what to do about it. I've had a sim for years now and never really had much of a hand issue, but all of a sudden I can barely lift the club, the paint for me is in index and middle finger mostly, I think it may be from a wrist strain but not really certain. It's been 6+ weeks for me, I saw a doctor who offered me literally no advice other than to rest it, I convinced him to give me a shot which helped a bit but not much unfortunately.

I developed tennis elbow in both elbows from excessive range/sim play. My setup is the fiberbuilt as well. I had cortisone shots in both elbows, the right didnt take, the left seems to be ok so far. I don't know that there are better hitting surfaces around, I think for me it comes down to technique, and repetitiveness. I'm still trying to figure out how to solve the right elbow without PRP or possibly surgery. As for now I'm trying physical therapy.

I have the exact pain in the exact same location using the Quattro. Just ordered a Soft Strike hitting strip to see if that helps.

It's crazy how many little injuries I've had since getting my garage setup going. I love it, but I'm really going to have to be careful and set a pitch count going forward. Also, I'm going to limit how many all out drive swings I take. It's just so tempting to try and hit it further and further in the simulator. I was working on my irons a ton at first and it was my elbows and wrist that hurt. I've moved mostly to my driver lately and now it's my fingers that are sore (like I have arthritis or something). Not really sure why, but it happened after trying to set a ball speed record in my garage for an hour or so . Pretty smart . . .

Honestly, I think I've hit more balls this past three months than I normally do in five years. I had pretty much limited real range work in the past because I would hurt my swing more than help and only played 9-18 holes a week. Going to try and do more simulator play than simulator range work to limit my swings. I really don't want to mess up my body doing this -- it's just so fun though . . .

YouTube …type in Jeff Cavalier / Athlene X

I've had several different pains over the years at my age and he has several different exercises and stretches for different ailments. He says usually a pain in one place comes from a weakness in another place. May or may not be your issue but may be worth looking into so you can continue the Sim Fun!!

Add “hand pain” or something of the like to your search.

            good luck
