  • Free app for tracking stats related to your rounds

There are a lot of scorecard apps out there for when you're out playing - it's amazing to pull up the course you're playing at and see the yardages and track your score. I use those apps regularly...at least when our courses aren't covered in snow. But I recently started playing a lot of golf in a make-shift simulator in my garage, and I found myself frustrated in trying to find an app that tracked basic round information (just shots and putts) and then gave me stats that let me analyze my game.

Thankfully, I picked up another hobby besides sim golf - I started learning iOS programming. So…I built myself an iOS app to track my scores and then report a variety of stats (including handicap, of course, but also lots, lots more). It works really well for me, and I thought others might have the same frustration as me with tracking sim rounds, so I’ve released the app for anyone to use. This app isn't intended for use on the course - it's something you would enter your shots and putts into afterwards so that you can keep a history of all of your rounds.

It’s 100% free, no ads, no tracking, and all data is stored on your device (with the ability to export all your data). The app just lets you enter your scores and tracks them, then reports a ton of stats about your rounds. I use it every day (literally...I've played 76 sim rounds this year so far) and I keep adding more stats and features as I think of them or people suggest them.

To be clear about what this app is and isn't, it isn't meant to replace apps you use while out on a real course. It doesn't have GPS, it doesn't integrate with a watch to track shots, it doesn't attempt to suggest clubs to use, it only tracks YOUR round. It's all about entering the least amount of data possible (approach shots and putts), then using that data to generate stats. And I will say...it's amazing how much information you can glean from just those two things.

I'm putting this out there in case anyone else has the same frustration I did with tracking their rounds (sim or real rounds). If anyone else finds it useful, I’d love that! And I will note that I’m super open to feedback or suggestions for improvements; I’ve really enjoyed combining sim golf with learning iOS programming. There’s nothing better than being able to say to my wife “I have to go generate some test data for my app - I'll be in the garage for a bit” 😂

If you’re interested, check it out in the AppStore, it’s simply named Golf Score Stats. I've include a couple of screenshots, but there is lots more!
